Not sure about best metal solos because it's not a genre I frequent. My fave solos are...

Wilco-Impossible Germany, Nels Cline is the man.
Dino Jr-Out There, everything J Mascis does is crazy good.
Stones-Time Waits For No One, Mick Taylor kills it.
Blind Faith-Presence Of The Lord, this is why people call EC God.

It'd be a tough debate for Dimebag's best solo... I'd say either Walk or Domination.

Sure...Hostile may not have beed the best solo he ever did but, aside from just throwing a name out there, I was considering overall song quality. It's just such an air-tight song, ripped through the solo masterfully and then back out again... awesome. New school has some great stuff out there too... The Human Abstract anyone?

The Human Abstract is a great band

A Violent Strike is a sick song

Indeed.

It was hard to give an example of just one of their songs...

It's hard for Unrelenting at least, who named a song off the tripe that is Midheaven. Best solo for them is between Harbinger and Crossing the Rubicon.
