it's no mystery, they knew how to write better songs.

forget the 90s, the 80s is when things were established.

Slayer was the heavier band, that's clear as day, but that heaviness made them inaccessible to most. it did pay off in the much longer run, but who is it that held the door open for the kids who would some day turn into the adults who opened even more kids eyes to this band???

Pantera in the 80s was a greasy cheeseball. again, who held the door open for the heavy grooves that cemented their popularity in the mid 90s?

Megadeth has only ever written one song - WAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! We're better than Metallica, i ****ing swear we're better than Metallica! WAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah they went for world domination eventually, but they had already been established as top of the pile when 'One' started charting on the Billboard Top 40.

oh yeah, Anthrax was the correct answer for the 4 core groups, not Pantera.

St.Anger always seems to be one of the most disputed Metallica albums out there, especially with its nu-metal elements. Some of the songs on there I really like, but I recognize as an album it`s a hit and miss affair at times, but its still an album that I enjoy playing from time to time.

I agree Dave Mustaine whined a lot about the whole getting kicked out thing way too much, but honestly they really did screw him over. Surely, we wouldn't have Ride the Lightning or Master of Puppets as we know them as well as the Megadeth albums I like, but still...principle of the thing. Shows you the Metallica guys were ****s straight out of the gate.

Nothing beats the scene in the documentary Some Kind Of Monster when Mustaine meets up with Lars...best awkward moment in history.

I still enjoy it myself often enough, but I'd be lying if I said it was their greatest work or anything.....

I`ve not seen that video before but it says it all really. The ruthless streak of Ulrich and Hetfield in quickly dispatching their problem. What`s still sad that after all these years Dave Mustaine still whines about it, instead of reflecting on his own achievements with his own band. Just for the record, Dave Mustaine has also carried that ruthless streak in dispatching people from his own band over the years for no really good reason....its a case of the abused becoming the abuser.

Well I guess it should come to no suprise to nobody that guys in a band can be jerks sometimes, hello Roger Waters and Dave Gilmour, the beatles who hated each other by careers end, Billy Corgan, Fleetwood Mac...

It's a constant in rock... people disagree and someone hehaves like an *******, and then the rest of 'em follow.

It's just human nature in microcosm.

As you say it goes on in most bands but I think the Metallica Dave Mustaine thing is kind of unique. Lars Ulrich was crying in the video, largely out sympathy for Dave as he knew he was dealing with a madman just look at Dave`s eyes totally f****n nuts, its one of the reasons that I love Dave and Megadeth by the way. What`s sad though, that if Dave Mustaine lived to be 200, he would still be sitting somewhere on a sofa bitching about what Metallica did to him all those years ago...........some people can just never let go.

If thats the sound you're looking for, Puppets perfected it. So what should you do? Keep making ****tier versions of Puppets?

Changing their sound was them playing something that they enjoyed and was more appropriate. The worst thing an artist can do is try and duplicate their old records when they don't feel that way any more.

It seems to say: People liked me when I was angry, so I'm going to try and be angry again.

The kids barking for thing like "make more old sounding records" ahve little to no life experience. They don't understand theres a finite limit to things, they don't understand why and how things change. Their either 16 and think the world is black and white or their 40 and still dress like they did when they were 16 and that the world is black and white.
Yeah and this is why so many metalheads who rant about Metallica's new direction are stupid.

Most of the time, anybody can win or be nominated at the grammy awards. Perfect example-Audioslave with three nominations!!!
