Please leave your suggestions!

you'd be good with any KISS hit song from their classic period

Rock and Roll All Nite, Love Gun, Do You Love Me?, Calling Dr. Love

other stuff:-

Def Leppard - Pour Some Sugar On Me
Motley Crue - Dr. Feelgood
Poison - Unskinny Bop

(Those are all to 80s & 90s Glam rockish). Just about anything southern rock or leaning more R&B..Blues Rock orientated, like Lynard Skynard, Molly Hatchet, any 70s classic rock may produce better results if your looking for good guitar leads, etc.
Dr. Feelgood is OK, but Pour Some Sugar On Me and Unskinny Bop sounds kinda.. (bubblegum)?

I love Prog Metal like Dream Theater,Symphony X,Ayreon,Pagens Mind,Stratavarious and Vaden Plas but I feel these bands owe a debt to Rush of course but also King Diamond.King who just recovered from heart surgery has one of the best vocal ranges in all music. Not only is he a great singer but his songwriting is second to none.Just listen to the diobalical classics Them and Conspericy.I know a lot of people dislike him due to the Satanism but to me that just adds to the creepyness and isnt that what metal is really ment to be.What makes King Progressive is the great bant behind him and his concepts.

Anyone have any recommendations for GOOD modern rock?

The closest I've heard to contemporary rock that is really good is High on Fire. They definitelly have a metal leaning... but the songs are done in a traditional manner and they're all about the hook.

And, yes, James D Hill, King Diamond is amazing. Truly great vocalist, and a great performer.

High on Fire aren't "metal leaning", they're just straight up metal. I agree they're a great band though.

High on Fire one of the best stoner metal bands around.

I have to say I don't get why they're tagged as stoner metal. They sound very little like stoner metal to me, more like a thrashy Motorhead.

The Motorhead influence is very evident in their sound and I`d say they were also influenced by Hawkwind especially the acid rock element.

The stoner metal tag I`d say was correct given Matt Pike`s links with Sleep and being from California stoner metal is probably in their veins.

The early material is very stoner metal. I`d also say they have a Melvins sludge metal element as well.

Sleep was definitely stoner but that doesn't mean everything Matt Pike does for the rest of his life is going to be stoner.

I don't have their first album so maybe that's where all the stoner sounding stuff is, but certainly don't find the second album to be particularly stoner sounding.
