Alice in Chains- Facelift/Dirt
Pearl Jam- Ten
Soundgarden- Superunknown
Nirvana- Incesticide/In Utero

There's my favourites.

IndiElectronica 06-20-2006 08:25 AM

of course mudhoney is grunge... Pearl Jam and STP though were not! They had a few similarities...

Seen Mudhoney something like 8 times in my life actually... used to run into Mark Arm all the time at record shops too...

swim 06-20-2006 08:30 AM

^I'm jealous. Why am I the only person who's mentioned Green River?

IndiElectronica 06-20-2006 09:02 AM

green river and Melvins are the orginators of Grunge - you are right :)

I've seen ALL these bands... and mostly was wasted on me. I wanted to be in Madchester at the time - lol! Seeing Melvins again in fact this Dec... should be good. The last time I crowd surfed (over 10 years ago) was at a melvins gig.... nearly broke my tailbone!! haha

I just dont listen to a lot of the music you like. A few groups I do listen to for enjoyment rather than a technical aspect(like Motley Crue), but I have a decent music library.

motley_crue131 06-20-2006 10:13 AM

actually, pearl jam is grunge. i don't know if stp is though, they might be alternative or something

swim 06-20-2006 10:15 AM

Pearl Jam and STP are bands that labels pushed as grunge but really are just alternative rock bands.

cardboard adolescent 06-20-2006 12:55 PM

Green River were decent, but they were just beginning musicians. I like them better than Mother Love Bone, but I still prefer Pearl Jam.

With all due respect the same goes for any band classified as grunge.

Raine 06-21-2006 12:12 AM

The Melvins (did a cover of Nirvana's Teen Spirit that rocked)
Nirvana
Soundgarden

Mudhoney

bungalow 06-21-2006 12:14 AM

That cover sucked, you are retarded if you thought it "rocked"
Ew, they even had Lief Garret on vocals.

I'm not retarded no matter what I think.

But somewhere along the lines you are right. It didn't rock. But I liked it a lot.

I liked it.

Wouldn't call the Melvins all that Grungey though. I pick Soundgarden.

bungalow 06-21-2006 12:48 AM

EWW!
I can't even listen to it.

We are talking about the one on The Crybaby right?

Yes the one on the Crybaby
It was not that bad a cover song. trust me, worst covers have been.
The Ataris redid that Don Henly song Boys of Summer. They made an ok song shit.

cardboard adolescent 06-21-2006 12:59 AM

Beyond the vocals, it's pretty faithful to the original. And I don't really mind the vocals. You can actually understand the lyrics... it's kind of strange.

bungalow 06-21-2006 01:01 AM

I hate the original too.
That could explain some things.

I actually don't care for the Teen Spirit by Nirvana either. It's not their best song. And personally I don't think it was Dave Grohl at his best.
Dave Grohl at his best is when he's with the Foo Fighters.

cardboard adolescent 06-21-2006 01:05 AM

I don't see how you can compare someone's drumming to their singer/songwriter skills...

I wasn't trying to make any comparison.
Just putting ou there that Dave's as a singer/songwriter for the Foo is better than him as drummer for Nirvana

bungalow 06-21-2006 01:08 AM

Yeah, that's called a comparison genius.

fine whatever. Just know that my goal wasn't to make a comparison asshole.

IndiElectronica 06-21-2006 03:15 AM

for the last time - Pearl Jam were NOT grunge!!! they were a pop/rock band that happened to be from Seattle is all... and two of their memeber WERE in a grunge band (Mother Love Bone).

swim 06-21-2006 06:16 AM

^They're not going to listen.
As far as nirvana goes Bleach is the only album I can bare to listen through.
Fugazi has a song we hate this riff making fun of Smells Like Teen Spirit. It's cool.

IndiElectronica 06-21-2006 07:39 AM

haha - bleach is only 'grunge' album i own.

Needed to get 'smells like teen spirit' out the other day for a mash up i was working on and don't even have a mp3 copy of it... thought that was funny...

Hey, congrats on making a great 4th post.
No, really.

boo boo 07-05-2006 05:17 AM

Nirvana.

bruise_violet 07-05-2006 05:20 AM

I never know what to class as 'alternative'.

I love Nirvana, Alice In Chains and Smashing Pumpkins, if they are alternative?

Seltzer 07-05-2006 05:36 AM

For grunge, Alice in Chains is by far my favourite band. IMO, Layne Staley was one of the greatest 90s vocalists, along with Mike Patton and Chris Cornell.

Alt. rock is a very screwy genre because people seem to dump every second band into it. Even though I have RHCP classified as funk rock on my computer, most people would count them as alt. rock, so for this thread, RHCP is my fav alt. rock band.

Blain 07-05-2006 06:10 AM
