Grunge...

I needed a place to write some stuff on my mind, and I found this forum.

1. "Grunge Fashion"
Well, the whole point to grunge is that we don't have a fashion or anything close. We truly don't care what you think (unlike the sparkly, glittery hypocrites a lot of you seem to love). Simply, when you buy a flannel shirt to look grunge at payless for 80 dollars, you're an idiot. You're not a poser though, you're just an idiot. Us "grungies" bought flannel because it's cheap and warm. Not because it symbolized a type of music, which happened because of the advertising scams everyone claims to hate (another hypocritical point).

2. The Name
Simply put, we don't like the name "Grunge". Someone said it because of it's dictionary definition which explained us. But of course, soon enough, media slapped it on as a label and tryed to bunch us all together. Which is actually against what we scream for, ending up making more people look like idiots. Go figure. Now, it's different when some guy says, "So you're into Grunge music?" Of course we say yes, because we are. we like the music we make, but we think it's stupid to give us a label when the whole point is to be independant.

3. Attitude
We are rebellious, but we're not some faceless no-name yelling at our presidents because mom said she dosen't like war. We (notice I say we, not trying to bunch us together, but mostly agreeing with each other) rebel only to what we think needs rebelling. This is the same for the common dad, except that people like me who are or were teenagers, are stuck with this freakin label of angst, creating a thought for adults that it's a phase we'll pass through, which really pisses me off, because it's not that we overcome it, or you tamed us, it's that either some of us were traitors and decided that there's a way you're supposed to be, or that we simply gave up (something that is hyped up as being bad. Giving up is a choice we're allowed to have, and is sometimes wise). I read earlier a headlining for a "Teen Angst" book to help parents take control. The headling was, "Tips to Tackling the Years in Which They Think They Deserve to Be the Boss". That made my face red. All a parent needs to do is be who they are and not be overdramatic about things. Drama in teens derives from retard parents raising thier children like retards. If the parent wasn't dramatic, the kid wouldn't be dramatic, thus no reason for anyone to be dramatic. Remember, drama always comes from drama.

that's it for now, I didn't read any rules because I was too lazy, so if I break any I don't really care since it was my fault...

Wow... I didn't know how crappy the forum writers really are here...

(don't message back, it would be a waste of time since I'm already leaving)

But you said you truly didn't care what we think. And then you wrote some kind of silly grunge manifesto. What kind of response were you expecting?

Zarko 04-12-2009 10:38 AM

I thought threads were meant to invite discussion...

Getting the cold shoulder from Ahem... Might go off myself now...

lucifer_sam 04-12-2009 10:39 AM

ah, the ultimate paradox of the grunge fanatic!

next he's going to tell us that he hates corporate rock. ignore his burning passion for Nirvana.

At least Cobe had endurance.

Ahem 04-12-2009 03:33 PM

Hey everybody... I came back to see if you still responded and I really am sorry. I got myself mad while I was writing, and though I do happen to like nirvana, things like GnR and Hendrix are some things I like. Though I don't mind what people think about me, I'm not everybody. I don't want to stereotype my friends and I. I just googled "music forum" and needed to write somewhere what was on my chest.

Surell 04-12-2009 03:36 PM

Well I'm hoping to see more from you seeing as you can write pretty intelligently. this is a great place for finding new music and conversing with some cool cats I guarantee. BUT we're also a bunch of Dr. House level assholes. Be warned.

333 04-12-2009 03:46 PM

Yeah, I don't know about you guys, but I could do without some inconsiderate fucks stopping by just to vent. Granted he had some decent thoughts put together, it's ultimately just not worth it to me if the discussion is too one-sided.

Ahem 04-12-2009 03:49 PM

Alright alright. I think I can talk on this crowd. I'll be more considerate of my stupid ideas from now on xD

333 04-12-2009 04:20 PM

I didn't call you stupid. Your initial reaction was just close-minded, but your apology is accepted here. Stay ... That is, if you can handle us. :P

Surell 04-12-2009 04:21 PM

Exactly.

Bane of your existence 04-12-2009 04:22 PM

Come for the banter, stay for the pix of Savannah.

Surell 04-12-2009 04:25 PM

Ditto for that sir.

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-12-2009 04:26 PM

These grunge fans are so highly strung.

I didn't even get a chance to say anything this time :(

333 04-12-2009 04:26 PM

Hahaha! Indeed, friends, indeed.

Out of curiosity, how old are you? I ask because every fanatical grunge fan were get here seems to be too young to have even been born back when grunge was having any kind of impact and I'm trying to figure out this bizarre pattern.

Haha I know what you mean. But I'm 21. Grunge is about exactly what teens (that I know) connect to. I just happened to hold on to It, which actually isn't all that special considering the age of band members.

Well, you may just be the oldest grunge fan to post here then. Even still that makes you, what, three when Nevermind was released? Not that there's anything wrong with listening to older music or anything, but I find it strange that grunge would have any kind of appeal to people after the fact.

Well, even if someone wasn't alive when it came out, my view is that it sounds good. I love Maiden but I wasn't there in the 80s enough to be there. It's like the word people use: classic. Just not for everybody.

Also, nevermind wasn't the only album. It was just the most famous. Which is actually one of the reasons for Kurts' decision (and please don't let anyone talk about his suicide- it was his choice, he made, who cares?)

LOL. I was in high school at the peak of the whole grunge thing, I realize that Nevermind wasn't the only grunge album. It was the album that made grunge big though.

Like I said, my surprise about younger grunge fans doesn't have anything to do with the idea of people listening to older music, I listen to plenty of music that's older than me myself. It's just that grunge was such a manufactured thing I find it amazing that it could appeal to anyone outside of the very narrow demographic that it was originally aimed at.

Ahem 04-12-2009 09:13 PM

I don't know, I like what it sounds like, and that's all I need haha :)

pro tip for your future on music forums...

don't assume everyone already on the boards is like the rest of the people you went to high school with.

Ahem 04-12-2009 11:01 PM

Uhm...? I didn't. I was writing for whoever wanted to read it. If you didn't want to read it then don't read it... :P

grunge is dead. i dont get what possible relevance "grunge culture" could have in 2009. nobody's trying to "be grunge" anymore. your crappy movement died in the early 90s. get over it for goodness sake.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who likes being able to read what the hell someones saying. I mean I use a lot of slang but at least I can put it in sentences properly.

Grunge was awesome but then it became mainstream which is what ruined it. I'd rather much prefer to hear that today than what is getting put out now.

crash_override 04-13-2009 10:06 AM

I think we all go through a grunge phase at some point, I know I did. Grunge was the coolest ever for a while, then I kind of just grew out of it. I rarely listen to my grunge albums now. However there are a few classic albums I spin more than others.

If that's the case then I still haven't gone through my grunge phase. I thought it was lame when it was new and still think so today.

You never know what could happen as a senile old man. I wouldn't rule anything out yet.
