Honestly, I'm more interested in the conspiracy theory than Nirvana's music. My favourate bands from the general area and genre are

Melvins, Mudhoney, Screaming Trees, Alice in Chains.

and as for only discovering it 'last week'. I've been very much into grunge since I started listening to music properly.

And when was that?

It's no different to you slagging off Indie or Emo. And at least i've come to my conclusions by listening to it.

If you can't take it , don't dish it out.

jackhammer 09-15-2008 05:02 PM

Alice In Chains are shit are'nt they?

lucifer_sam 09-15-2008 05:11 PM

Yes indeed but so is Eddie Vedder and everyone who looks like him. Shame he didn't bite the bullet like Layne and Kurt.

Janszoon 09-15-2008 05:24 PM

I reserve my real ire for Stone Temple Pilots. Alice in Chains had some good songs. Pearl Jam had some good songs. Soundgarden had some good songs. STP just sucked and also seemed like a bunch of douchebags. The only thing even remotely connected to them that I ever liked was that solo Scott Weiland song "Lady, Your Roof Brings Me Down".

lucifer_sam 09-15-2008 05:37 PM

What's your opinion on Shannon Hoon (of Blind Melon)?

They were bloody awful , It`s also the only time i`ve ever seen a frontman try to start a sing-a-long & not one person in the crowd join in.

Not really a fan. I had a roommate several years ago who was always trying to sell me on Blind Melon. He played me a lot of their stuff but I was never all that impressed by Shannon Hoon or the band in general.

He was using heroin at the time. As far as I know, Blind Melon only ever completed one full tour. So if he was bloody awful, at least it was only once.

I think that his songwriting has a much broader appeal than the pretentious dogma of Kurt or the insensical ramblings of Eddie Vedder. He didn't exist to sell a movement or anything else, he really just opened up and sang about how plain life in general was. I'm not suggesting that the band itself was that great; the guitarist always seems to find an unoriginal way to write stuff. As a collective group, they are as far from influential to me as the Spice Girls.

Layne..overdosed. he didn't shoot himself.

Janszoon 09-15-2008 05:49 PM

I'm not really a fan of Nirvana and Pearl Jam either, but if I had to choose I'd rather listen to either of them than Blind Melon.

Grunge_Junkie 09-15-2008 05:53 PM

Pearl Jam is too slow.

Janszoon 09-15-2008 06:03 PM

LOL. Are any grunge bands particularly fast?

Grunge_Junkie 09-15-2008 06:04 PM

lets see. yeah a little bit yes.

Janszoon 09-15-2008 06:07 PM

Such as?

I have a God-given right to resent those fuckers for tainting the radio for the last seventeen years.

Soundgarden made a few good tracks I s'pose. Why on earth should grunge be fast? With a few exceptions I would have thought it was the very antithesis of the movement?

Grunge_Junkie 09-15-2008 07:15 PM

i was just naming some songs that were kind of fast.

jackhammer 09-15-2008 07:19 PM

It still amazes me that some of the most inane threads on here get plenty of replies but suggest a new or forgotten band and you get zip. tssskkk.

A random fast song here or there doesn't mean that genre as a whole is typically fast. My point was that grunge, on the whole, isn't very fast so it's kind of strange for a "grunge junkie" like yourself to dislike a grunge band for not being fast enough.

It's like a thrash fan complaining that Slayer isn't dancy enough or something. You see what I'm saying?

This thread was created in order to add hate to grunge and try to make us feel bad.

Oh, I was under the impression someone else did. It's turned into Junkie trying to defend grunge from the regs of this forum, though.

Piss Me Off 09-16-2008 05:43 PM

Grunge Junkie made the thread!

Edit: I am very late here!

Grunge_Junkie 09-16-2008 05:45 PM

i did make it cause i didn't see a grunge topic on here. i could be wrong.

Piss Me Off 09-16-2008 05:46 PM

They're regs because they simply disagree with your opinions?

No, they're regs because they're obviously regulars to the forum. I'm just saying none of them seem to 'like' or even respect grunge.

Grunge_Junkie 09-16-2008 06:18 PM

i dont think they do. anyway.

Ahh, different type of regs ;)
I think most people here have a respect for all types of music, and then there's people like Urban who have obviously tried but can't find anything to shout home about in hindsight. It's within the nature of a music forum to express their feelings about a genre so you can't get too upset if they're some negative opinions.
