I USED to be a 'metalhead' and I still listen to it and the odd band now are interesting enough from the plethora out there but a lot of them are narrow minded idiots. It is mainly teenagers though because liking the more extreme or obscure artists is a case of 'one upmanship'. As you mature you (90% of the time) diversify as I did. I think virtually all genre specific fans are as bad as each other and all I can say is more fool them. They are missing out on music that they could well like.

I know what you're getting at but Merzbow is a terrible example. Some of his material is actually very surreal sounding and relaxing.

Yeah and a lot of it is basically Metal Macine Music part 2.

This is one of the biggest problems I have about indie fans.

Indie culture today from my perspective has just become this big race to find and praise the most obscure artists and albums possible, and quality seems to be irrelevant.

I know that by saying that, this big trap of mine is probably gonna get me in trouble again, but it's the only thing IMO that could possibly explain the popularity of Merzbow.

Dude i know exactly how you feel... I was at the radiohead concert in cleveland a couple of weeks ago and i saw a kid that i went to high school with so we talked for a bit and he told me that he was there to see Grizzly Bear (the opening act). I was like oh that's cool i guess, kinda excessive to pay 50+ dollars for a band like that, who were admittedly not bad live. Anyways we got to talking about GB and he said "Hopefully they don't get noticed and people start to like them cause i'll have to stop listening to them." I laughed jokingly with him, but on the inside i wanted to scream at him and call him a retard.

You can still scream and call him a retard on the outside, but I'll doubt he'll be able to hear you.

Unless...maybe he could hear you. Retards have amazing powers.

The only thing I hate about music is the listeners who are snots and stick there noses up at people for what they listen too.

People who only like the Jonas Brothers for their looks and pay no attention to the music. What the hell.

What a shame, Grizzly Bear opened for Radiohead in Indianapolis too and I thought they f*ucking sucked.

I hate musical cliches. Examples, Slayer has been Anti-God on everyyyyything, **** gets old after a while. I've never even heard one Theory Of A Deadman song that didn't talk about a woman or some failed relationship. And I love em' anyway, but damn.
Same thing with alot of bands today, the typical angsty, emotional, hatred filled ballads about today's rebellious youth. Same old ****. Give it a rest, and mix things up a bit, do something different.

This isn't something that pisses me off, it's just something I think is funny: I went to a metal show a couple weeks ago (Brutal Truth, Pig Destroyer and Javelina) and I was one of only a handful of people not wearing a black t-shirt. Looking at the crowd that was also about 99% white and male made me think of some hilarious black t-shirted army.
