Slayer.

I'm not a huge fan of either band anymore, but I don't listen to Metallica at all really. If I do its pretty much exclusively Kill em' All. I listen to a couple of the early Slayer albums occasionally. I don't feel like these two bands are the BEST thrash ever, though. I certainly think there's better bands out there.

Slayer isn't fit to wear Metallica's boots.

The boots are too small for Slayer's feet.

I think Mr. J hit the nail on the head here. I can't see anything by Slayer (Reign in Blood included) matching Metallica's first three albums, but after Cliff died they went South.

If all the members of Metallica had died in that bus accident they would have been immortalized and we wouldn't be having this conversation, but as it stands today, Metallica sucks ass.

I agree with the second paragraph but the first? Not so much. K'EM isn't even as good as some of Slayer's lesser efforts and RTL and MOP, while excellent albums, still have their flaws and can't even touch Reign in Blood or Seasons in the Abyss.
