Well I know Albarn wasn't a big Nirvana fan which I found pretty odd because their most popular song sounds unmistakenably influenced by them.

I always assumed it was a parody of SLTS, complete with intentionally muttered vocals and confusing lyrics.

Nirvana>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Blur.

Albarn *shakes fists*

Did they make it to prove a point? 4/5 power chords for verse with a distorted barred chorus = $$$. I wonder.

Stop sitting on the fence woman. Favourite Blur record NOW.

Ermmmmmmmmm..... 'Modern Life is Rubbish'.

There is every chance I will come back to this tomorrow and change my mind

From Lord Wiki:

Quote:
Stylistically, Britpop bands relied on catchy hooks and wrote lyrics that were meant to be relevant to British young people of their own generation.[3] Britpop bands conversely denounced grunge as irrelevant and having nothing to say about their lives. Damon Albarn of Blur summed up the attitude in 1993 when after being asked if Blur were an "anti-grunge band" he said, "Well, that's good. If punk was about getting rid of hippies, then I'm getting rid of grunge."[4] In spite of the professed disdain for the genres, some elements of both crept into the more enduring facets of Britpop. Noel Gallagher has since championed Ride. Noel Gallagher stated in a 1996 interview that Nirvana's Kurt Cobain was the only songwriter he had respect for in the last ten years, and that he felt their music was similar enough that Cobain could have written "Wonderwall".[5]
That was the only bone I really had to pick with Damon Albarn. He was very narrowminded towards the grunge era. Even people that aren't huge grunge fans (like myself) can appreciate it for what it is... But Damon Albarn being a d*ck sometimes is another matter altogether....

EDIT: Actually, I'm going with 13. For now.

Abarn is a prick, Nirvana were far better than Blur. That Wiki page basically says your lyrics have to be a certain way, and say certain things or they're to esoteric, vague and not good enough. Which is a bit absurd. Noel said Cobain could have written Wonderwall.

They're totally different songwriters. I don't think Kurt ever used a G chord, Em7 chord, or Dsus2 chord. He used power chords, barre chords and Em a lot. Plus Kurt didn't completely rip The Beatles off, he took influence from them.

Fine choice on 13

Don't even get me started on Noel Gallagher's great quotes...The Kurt one remains one of my favourites...

Blur vs Oasis resulted in great music and some of the biggest dicks in 90s British music.

Back on topic though - 'Sweet Home Alabama'. A song ruined by radio.

Meh, was probably on coke when he said it. For the most part his quotes have been spot on, apart from football.. as I support the better half of Manchester. I'd love to have a pint with Noely G.

True story. Blur started it though. Saying both bands would cancel a show to avoid fans bottling each other, Oasis cancelled their show but Blur went ahead. Twats.

U2 - With Or Without You/Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For. amirite?

As my Mum would say, "I don't care who started it. I'M finishing it". But yes, Blur were somewhat in the wrong there. Oasis didn't have to get all shirty though

I have so, SO much love for Graham Coxon....

U2 - With or without you = Dire over exposure

White Stripes - 7 Nation Army got right on my tits too.

Coxon kissing Gallagher? What the fluff?

Leave TWS alone! Sven Nation Army was a great song. From the queen of England to the hounds of hell.

I don't dispute that it was a great song, but (due to the radio being played in the office all day) I didn't need to hear it 6 times a day! It turned it into the stuff of nightmares. As soon as I hear the opening bars I have to turn it off. It's why I only listen to radio at work, unwillingly. Radio ruins perfectly good songs for me. I'm sure one day I'll be able to enjoy '7 nation Army' again. I hope. Also, (less Rock, more Indie) 'Bittersweet Symphony' and 'The Drugs don't work' by The Verve. TDDW was a depressing enough song anyway, but when you're holed up in an office doing a job you hate listening to that at least twiceevery single day, suicidal thoughts are inevitable.

'Sweet Child of Mine' - Guns N Roses makes me want to go on a mass killing spree. It's one of those songs that, whatever I do, at some point, somewhere, it will be played.

The story of the picture is along the lines that both bands were at NME, Oasis having a photoshoot. Coxon thought it would be funny to run in and plant one on Liam and the Photographer snapped it. Liam's face says it all really
