I personally favor Motley way over Dokken, though I do like some of Dokken's stuff.

I think all the Motley albums from the 80s hold up pretty well, except for maybe Theatre of Pain. The mixing on that album, aside from the singles, isn't the greatest. Its still pretty Motley though.

To me, Motley is glam metal and glam metal is Motley. They represent the genre 100%.

Let's face it, Dokken's only real redeeming quality is Lynch.

Let's be realistic here... Van Halen are the hair metal band. They practically invented the genre. They set the trend of "sleazy singer + insanely talented guitarist = money". And if we're talking about the best hair/glam metal band (rather than album, which is why I brought up Dokken's Tooth and Nail), don't forget about "W.A.S.P."! They're just like Motley Crue, but with a male lead singer!

VH, of course. I sometimes feel they aren't really a hair-metal band though. But in any case, VH is stupidly iconic (meaning, iconic as hell!). And DLR's solo band, the first two albums with Steve Vai? Whew!

WASP is another great, I always think of them in a tv interview (was it Behind the Music?) talking about how the crowd would throw raw meat at them, and one time someone threw a frozen rack of lamb and it knocked their guitarist unconscious or something.

That's pretty 80s

It's always fun to hear about the antics of W.A.S.P.! And I get what you mean with Van Halen, who are like the dividing line between Glam Rock and Hair Metal.
