nobel of you to vote for the weaker here. But it does not matter now. The better album is going to win. Have you even heard the Acid Bath album? One of, if not the best Sludge album released.

As I say, Melvins are better overall. But Acid Bath wins this for having a simply more varied, more atmospheric and more interesting album than Melvins.

any Melvins album is better than all sludge-metal albums combined

Melvins - 3
Acid Bath - 3

I agree, Melvins are much better overall... and Bullhead is one of three perennial sludge albums they released between 91 and 93... it really doesn't get much better within the genre. In addition to Bullhead, I'd take either Lysol or Houdini over both Acid Bath albums in a heartbeat.

The songwriting, the experimentation, Buzzo's nonsensical but uniquely titillating vocal style and lyrics... and god damn Dale Crover's drumming... Acid Bath is a forgettable shadow in comparison.

I said the same thing basically. "Lysol" and "Houdini" are both top contenders.

But yeah, seems like Acid Bath is a love or hate band. People who love em really love em, and people who hate em really hate em. No room for in between it seems.

But there is something in the Acid Bath album that grips me more, especially the songwriting. I think as a lyricist Dax Riggs is top notch. The vocals on the album are top notch, the vocal effects on a song like "The Bones of Baby Dolls" is amazing.

I feel like a traitor going against Melvins, but that Acid Bath album just blows me away every time I listen to it.

Weird with the album, I prefer the slower moments more then the heavier moments. This song blows me away every time I hear it. Never tire of it:

I'm voting for Bullhead. One of my favourite Metal albums. Boris is a great song, you know a songs is great when it has a band that good named after it.
Melvins - 4
Acid Bath - 3

You guys are mad, Bullhead doesn't even approach the quality of the Acid Bath album. Bullhead is not a bad album, but its nothing special either and I only really like one song off the album "If I had an Exorcism" "Boris" always sounds promising but does drag at 8+ mins. I don't think Bullhead matches Houdini the following album in terms of quality at all.

Acid Bath -4
Melvins -4

While I prefer Paegan Terrorist Tactics to When The Kite String Pops, I've never been that into the Melvins so I'm going to have to go with Acid Bath regardless.

Acid Bath - 5

I thought this battle was a surprise too. If the two albums are viewed objectively, with discogs and genres aside, I would say Acid Bath wins easily. Hell, even as a sludge metal album I would think the pick would be quick. Dax's vocals are soooo good and the riffs are excellent. I guess it depends on if you are more into the heavy/slow guitar of the Melvins (the drumming is also a little better on Bullhead, although that could be because it stands out against the slowness around it). To me, Acid Bath is closer to a Mastodon, while Melvins sound closer to Electric Wizard. I think that if Bullhead was stripped of some repetitiveness and seemingly unnecessary empty pieces and condensed it could make an amazing 8-10 min song. Otherwise I found my mind frequently wandering

I re-listened to Bullhead just for this battle and found my mind constantly wandering throughout the album. The sound was there but the songs weren't and that is the main problem with the album.
