why is it not cencored for you...
rabble rabble rabble ! oh, i see now... i know the secret. |
ok my new line is installed, got both albums
Sleep I quite like this, very much like Sunn O))). But I still think Sunn O))) has better layering and effects and I prefer minimalism. Electric Wizard Maybe a bit too Sabbath-ish for my liking. I prefer Cathedral's The Carnival Bizarre for this type of stoner/doom stuff. so:- Electric Wizard - 4 Sleep - 3 |
Quote:
Electric Wizard and Cathedral are very similiar bands as well, but Electric Wizard get a lot more love. |
If I were a weed smoker, I think Dopesmoker would almost certainly get my vote, and perhaps if I had more time to get to know the album, it would still get my vote, but for now, I'm going to have to go with Electric Wizard. So awesome.

Ok Electric Wizard wins that one 5-3. Next up courtesy of Metal Connoisseur who seems to enjoy his gallic words. Two post-metal classics and imo the two best albums put out by each band and a must have for any metal collection.
Neurosis Through Silver in Blood 1996 http://i40.tinypic.com/2i87od1.jpg Versus Isis Oceanic 2002 http://www.metal-archives.com/images/1/2/4/7/12471.jpg |
As much as I love Oceanic (2002) I've gotta go with Neurosis on this one, I mean Through Silver in Blood is pretty much the album that started off the whole post-metal sound. Now if it was Panopticon (2004) instead this may have been a harder choice.
Neurosis - 1 ISIS - 0 |
Through Silver in Blood wins it easily for me and it's not even the best Neurosis album. Isis are an okay band and Oceanic is an okay album but certainly not up to the level of Neurosis.
Neurosis - 2 ISIS - 0 |
Neurosis - 3
Isis - 0 No contest here, Neurosis opened the door for Isis, and "Through Silver in Blood" is still the tops for the whole "post-metal" (or Atmospheric Sludge Metal if you prefer). Neurosis created a masterpeice with that album, and it easily trumps over Isis. |
NEUROSIS - 4
Isis - 0 Neurosis destroys everything. |
I prefer Oceanic to Through Silver in Blood. I think Isis does a much better job at evolving the songs in ways that grip the listener's attention. There is never a dull moment in Oceanic, where as I find myself yawning through much of TSiB. Both bands have songs that build up, but I think Isis executed it much better. The individual songs on Oceanic sound like a bunch of little songs seamlessly transitioning from one to the next, where as TSiB sounds more long and drawn out, adding one element to the next until the build up is complete. To put it one way, Neurosis makes me much more aware of song lengths. Although I understand their importance concerning post-metal, I have always found Neurosis to be a bit overrated. IMO Isis really took it to the next level with the post-metal sound. When it comes down to these two albums, I would say Oceanic is better.
Neurosis - 4 Isis - 1 |
Tip of the hat to Neurosis for pioneering the sound but Oceanic is just a better listen for me. Listening through the album is such an introspective experience, it's almost meditative. Neurosis just doesn't do it for me in that sense.
Neurosis- 4 Isis- 2 |
The Isis album is pretty amazing and I agree with most of the comments about it on here, but the first time I ever heard the Neurosis album it just blew me away......years later it still blows me away!
Neurosis 5 Isis 2 |
need to get both albums again
will d/l them tomorrow |
okies, got both
have to say post-metal ain't my bag, it's just too slow and draggy for me, but i'd go for Neurosis as it has better touches of slight jazz and classical so:- Neurosis 6 Isis 2 |
Neurosis win that one, now courtesy of Mondo Bungle one of those white punks on dope. Two early thrash classics (well one is) and albums I`m sure everybody will know. Again take a few lines to explain your choice.
Metallica Kill Em All 1983 http://991.com/newGallery/Metallica-...All-311692.jpg Versus Slayer Show No Mercy 1984 http://www.tradebit.com/usr/mp3-albu...0/37814017.jpg |
Slayer's one is a bit too murky, it would work well if you have a stronger death metal vibe like Sepultura, but it's still only thrash
Metallica's one is totally brutal, though, a landmark in thrash, and Mustaine's songs are good (as long as he doesn't sing them) so Metallica - 1 Slayer - 0 |
"Die By the Sword" and "Black Magic" are awesome tracks but c'mon this isn't even close...It's Kill Em All! It is THE defining thrash record. From a comparison standpoint, on a production and overall musicianship level, Kill Em All is miles ahead of Show No Mercy.
Metallica - 2 Slayer - 0 |
Metallica - 2
Slayer - 1 Because "Black Magic" is better than all of "Kill em All" and "Show No Mercy" doesn't have anything as bad as "Pulling Teeth...". (have to go out, no time to write anything more detailed at the moment... will update when I get some time later) |
I gotta go with Show No Mercy. It's just old school Venom worship at it's finest. Kill 'Em All is awesome, but it just doesn't give me that same charge as Show No Mercy.
Metallica - 2 Slayer - 2 |
While I think that Show No Mercy was more energetic (Made me want to headbang more), I've got to give this one to Kill 'Em All. It just sounds better musically. So it's:
Metallica - 3 Slayer - 2 |
Hmm. Regarding most any other Slayer v. Metallica, I'd take Slayer - especially during the 80s. However, "Kill 'Em All" is Metallica's best, and while it is just about as uneven as Show No Mercy, it's highlights are so much better. ****ing "Seek & Destroy" - that song alone is worth the price of admission.
Metallica - 4 Slayer - 2 |
The Metallica album is an absolute classic loaded up with killer tracks and the whole album is a real nod to the NWOBHM as well. I like the Slayer album much more than I used to and it displays the Slayer power and energy but its still not the finished product that the Metallica album is.
Metallica 5 Slayer 2 |
Any more votes here? I`ll be changing these albums over later today...so if you haven`t voted yet please do so.
Also, don`t send me any album suggestions for almost a week, as I currently have 4 pending battles waiting to go up! |

Ok Metallica sweep Slayer by 5:2 in that battle. Next up by Musicm from the land of the christmas trees is a seminal album from Sabbath and the debut album from Ozzy. Again take a few words explaining your choice.
Black Sabbath Paranoid 1970 http://991.com/newGallery/Black-Sabb...oid-498593.jpg Versus Ozzy Osbourne Blizzard of Ozz 1980 http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5YntXTVo15...B-%2Bfront.jpg |
Sabbath without a second thought. Never cared much for Ozzy's solo work.
Black Sabbath - 1 Ozzy - 0 |
Black Sabbath easy. I like early Ozzy, but he was basically just a parody of himself. And I don't think I ever have to hear "Crazy Train" ever again. It was cool the first fifty times I heard it (probably all in the space of a week), but now, it is quite stale.
Black Sabbath - 2 Ozzy - 0 |
i never really liked Ozzy solo at all, not even during the glory Randy Rhoads years (always preferred Randy with Quiet Riot)
no contest, really Black Sabbath - 3 Ozzy - 0 a better fight would be either Technical Ecstasy or Never Say Die cos they're lacklustrous, not the greatest Black Sabbath album ever |
Gotta say Paranoid. Like Il duce, I'm not really into solo ozzy
Black Sabbath-4 Ozzy-0 |
Black Sabbth - 5
Ozzy - 0 No contest what so ever. I do not think I even need to back this up. |
I don't think any of Ozzy's solo stuff measures up to anything by Sabbath.
Black Sabbath-6 Ozzy-0 |
Everything that needed to be said has been said
Sabbath - 7 Ozzy - 0 |
