I'm not really a fan of both. Pyromania sounds a little more cheesy and less exciting to me than Out of the Cellar. So I'm going with Ratt here.

"Hysteria" is the better Def Leppard album so Ratt for me as well.

http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTIwMFgxNj...(Wg~~60_35.JPG which, at the time, was only available with the purchase of his helicopter, the Dragonfly, and so was quite a commodity to an 80s kid. Also, I used to like Ratt so, even though I haven't listened to either of these for probably 20 years (at least) I thought I'd give this contest an honest shot. Here are the results: I listened to both albums before making my choice. 1st I put on Pyromania and was pleasantly surprised with the first track, "Rock! Rock! ('Til You Drop)" because it was sorta heavy. The rest of the album, though, was boring to say the least. While the band was clearly skilled the album is laden with soft rock numbers peppered with moments of love ballad, lighters-in-the-air moments throughout. Even within each song. I couldn't wait to make it stop, which it did after a very difficult 45 minutes of my life. Then I listened to 'Out of the Cellar' and was truly horrified. This album sucks dick big time. For a band that prided itself on its sexual prowess, they sure made a hell of a limp-dick piece of shit album this time around. It pretty much all blended together with its Heavy Metal Lite riffs and Peter Searcy's monotonous screechy cock rock vocals. I even re-listened to Pyromania again just to make sure how bad the Ratt album is. I was correct. Def Leppard is boring as hell on this album but they have some style and creativity at least. Pyromania, the last good Def Leppard record before they turned into complete pop sh****t.

Ratt is my choice for being a little more hard rocking than Def Leppard. Nobody Rides For Free is one of my favorite singles by Ratt. Def Leppard had a better debut though. Photograph is my personal fav song by them. I cant believe I actuaky liked Pour Some Sugar On Me years ago. ha, ha! Ratt - 3 Def Leppard - 3

Jeez I'm shocked to see Ratt doing so well here. I actually suggested the Ratt debut to The Batlord, as he was getting all hot and bothered over which albums to choose and as always I was glad to give the kid a hand on these things so I threw in Ratt.
As for the albums, Pyromania is one of the most important commercial metal sounding albums ever made and possibly the best. The band tightened up all the hooks from their previous release High N Dry and struck gold with Pyro. There's hardly a duff track on the whole album, "Action Not Words" is the only weak link on the album. Like Number of the Beast and British Steel, Pyromania was a landmark metal release from the 1980s and deserves all its plaudits. The Ratt album is good and in fact prior to recording I think the band must have been listening to a lot of Def Leppard themselves its that influenced by Def Leppard. The singing is different by Stephen Pearcy and the riffs are far more infused with that LA sleaze sound so typical of the time. But the album is still a notch down from Pyro, so there is only one winner here. Def Leppard -4 Ratt -3 |
Out of the Cellar has some great riffs, but other than that, there's not much there. The songs are heavy enough to satisfy ("Lack of Communication" simply crushes), but there's not really much interesting going on. It's certainly great fun listening to this album, but they seem to be a one trick pony.
Pyromania on the other hand, isn't the heaviest album on Earth in case you hadn't noticed, but the hooks on this album are to die for. Saying that this band is pop metal like it's an insult is missing the point entirely. This band's pop hooks are simply devastating, and I am in awe that they manage shove a near infinite number of them down your unworthy throats, without ever seeming to be in danger of running out of them, for forty five minutes straight. Are you voting for other people like Wild Bill? because the score should be:

Anyway... I guess I'm voting Def Leppard. Both of these albums, as is generally the case with this type of music, felt just sort of okay to me. Neither was horrible but neither really grabbed me. Pyromania did have several songs that I knew on it though and they made we a little nostalgic so that gives it the leg up. Def Leppard - 6 Ratt - 3 |

I know I don't often participate in the club, but I feel I must this time.
I cannot stand Ratt. When I think "worst bands/artists of all time" Ratt is near the top (bottom?) of that list. Leppard, though not my favorite band by any means, have some merit, this album in particular. Thus, the point goes to Def Leppard. Def Leppard - 7 Ratt - 3 |

I had both of these in the 80's, and I think I burned the Pyro one at some point. It was a time when there were sides to take and lines to be drawn. The true rockers went with Ratt, and anyone who listened to Def Leppard was considered a pansy. As absurd as this sounds, it's just how things were at that time around my group of friends. I remember trying to learn the dual guitar solo on Round & Round, with little success at that time, but always thought it to be one of the highlights of the album. I even went and bought the follow up to that since it had Lay It Down, which to me is their best tune out of anything they've ever done.
These days I've grown to really like Def Leppard, and have "seen the light" as they say. I've made some compilation CD's that are chock full of tunes from Pyro, and genuinely enjoy the guitar riffs, and glistening production on them. I've pretty much abandoned Ratt and can't stand anything I used to like these days... meh, people change.. oh, and I can remember when Def Leppard could still hear too. Def Leppard 9 Ratt 3 |
Uh-oh, I think teenage Plankton would have given teenage Unknown Soldier a wedgie.

Twisted Sister for me, I love that album. Twisted Sister was actually a pretty good rock n roll band. I blame MTV for making them a parody act, when I saw them live they were an amazing live act. Def Leppard - 1 Twisted Sister - 1 |

Da Leps for me too, if only for "Die hard the hunter". The only Leppard album I every got (apart from a vinyl copy of "Vault" which I still haven't listened to even once) and although I had the TS album (well, my brother did) and I liked it, it doesn't compare to the hooks and melodies on "Pyromania".
Yeah, plankton woulda kicked my ass too, but I would have stolen his girlfriend! :D:D:D:pimp::bringit: |
It's funny, I feel like the production style on each of these albums really says a lot about the two bands. Pyromania is crisp and clean and meticulously put together. Stay Hungry sounds like it was recorded inside a toilet bowl. I appreciate the slick, shiny pop of Def Leppard, but the low down punky shit of Twisted Sister is a lot more entertaining. Plus, "Burn in Hell" is one of the best hair metal songs ever so there's that. Voting Twisted.
Def Leppard - 1 Twisted Sister - 2 |
Well guys, once again, not a fan of either band, but at least this time I don't completely hate one. Both albums are okayish for what they are, but as far as mediocrity goes, Twisted Sister is slightly less mediocre than Leppard, even at Leppard's "prime" on their first album. Point to Crue.
Def Leppard - 1 Twisted Sister - 3 |
Def everytime.
2 to 3 |
This is a coincidence. 'Stay Hungry' was another of the first LPs I got (in my elementary schol years) - and it was from the same kid who I got 'Pyromania' from. I remember coming home with the album and my mom saying, "I don't even want to look at that. What is wrong with you?" which, of course, made me love it all the more.
I'm pretty sure that my friend was stealing records from his older sister and trading/selling them to me. She was about 5 years older than us and, although I had been hanging around their house since I was about 7, she never acknowledged my existence. She was the coolest girl I'd ever seen and she used to let us hang out in her room when she was getting ready to go out. She did speak to me once to tell me that 'Shout At The Devil' is the best album that was ever made when she noticed me checking out one of her many Motley Crue posters. But I digress. I remember liking 'Stay Hungry' so much that I almost automatically voted for it. But then I remembered how I used to think that I liked Ratt, so I gave the album a listen. I was right. To me, Stay Hungry kicks Pyromania's ass and takes its lunch money. Every day. Twisted Sister: 4 Def Leppard: 2 |
lemme relisten to both and give an informed choice
edit:- ok Def Leppard - this is the equivalent of some hot bimbo i managed to get - then i go back, whip it out and find myself flaccid, try to flog it but still no... i try a Swedish Penis Enhancer and still no.... the production is fluid, the tunes are there, it just doesn't rock out Twisted Sister - this is more like it - basic rock n roll with stripped-down production - has elements of the Glitter Band, NY Dolls, Black Sabbath, KISS - it slows down when it hits final few songs, only coming back with "SMF" but that's ok Stay Hungry - 5 Pyromania - 2 |
Gonna vote later, but I just need to mention that Trollheart forgot to update the vote when he voted. It should be:
Twisted Sister - 5 Def Leppard - 3 |
