I was pulling your leg, as for the cheese well that is subjective, I like cheese on most things anway.

As for power metal, what other metal genre can produce so many bands that follow in the traditions of old school metal and have a middle of the road sound, thats not too heavy or indeed too light, and doesn`t take itself seriously like a whole load of other sub-genres do.

Same reasons I love Venom, actually.

Up until now about 80% of the albums put up on here have been from American bands, as they were without doubt putting out the best power metal albums band for band. But from around the 1994 period that statistic would change drastically, as the European power metal bands more or less took over the genre and 1994 had some great European power metal albums starting with this one.

This album was also the last with Timo Tolkki who was the frontman in the band, I pretty much love this song.

Every single band in this thread is awesome. Loving all the new bands I discovered today, and hoping to pick up some of their albums someday.

Glad you`re enjoying it and found some new bands. You don`t hear this stuff much on the radio either

Already established band Helloween, took a severe fall after their classic Keeper of the Seven Keys albums, firstly with the departure of lead guitarist Kiri Hansen to form rival band Gamma Ray and then the band put out two really bad albums in Pink Bubbles Go Ape and the disasterous pop influenced Chameleon. Original singer Michael Kiske then baled out and new singer Andy Deris came in and helped to restore the bands flagging fortunes. This album may not be up on the same level as the Keeper of the Seven Keys albums but definitely was a return to form for the band.

When looking through best ever power metal albums lists on the internet, this album came up as the best ever power metal album of all time, on at least 75% of those lists! Blind Guardian are often seen as the most essential European power metal band and that reputation was surely established with this album. Do I think its the best power metal album ever? Probably not and its not even my favourite Blind Guardian album either, but its reputation amongst power metal fans is extremely high. Frontman of the band Hansi Kursch, had gruffer sounding vocals than some of his contemporaries and this album also gave the band their most cutting edge sound to date, he also played bass for the band, but this would be his final album as bassist, as from here on he would just concentrate on vocals.
