Anathema too. Very good since Alternative 4.

I know many modern "classic" prog bands. Bands like:
Riverside, Astra, The Future Kings of England, No-man, Kingston Wall, Oceansize, Ozric Tentacles, Comets of Fire, Amplifier, Oresund Space Collectives, NoSound, Airbag, Black Noodle Project, Pendragon, Abel Ganz, RPWL, Marillion, Phideaux, Steven Wilson, Dredg, The Mars Volta, Antimatter, Karnivool, Demians, Dream Theater, Pain of Salvation, Ayeron and Echolyn. (+ all the older ones).

But to my surprise I came across a fantastic album yesterday.
The band is Crippled Black Phoenix. They have been playing much in the genre of what Im looking for...that is very classic sounding but still quite modern. Mostly a mix of Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, King Crimson, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath.
But their latest album - (Mankind) The Crafty Ape (2012) - I just heard yesterday is just perfect. A little blend of modern rock and alt rock....and the loads and loads of classic Pink Floyd sounds and even more loads of Gilmour guitar. With a little twist of King Crimson too.
Well that doesn't get much better.
Here is two crazy good songs from the album. The first a intrumental stoner tune. The second an epic with so mucj Pink Floyd mood to it that i die of joy.

For my "concept" maybe just a little bit to "classic" performed. But the quality of it is just stunning.

Those three genres you mentioned already existed in the 70s.

But why stop there, did you ever trying to get into other Rock bands or sub-genres of Rock? I like Classic Rock (whether you consider it a radio format or style of music). It has it plus and minuses just like anything else. On the "+" it it has those bands you mentioned and the "-" it was restricted only to certain bands, it didn't encompass other styles that I like.

I would consider these two songs to have I guess what you think "(neo) Classic Rock" sound.

Know Darkness. Okay, but not masterclass. The second link I din't know. Good.

Electronica, new wave and post punk were starting to emerge in the late 70s. Yes, true. But as a new mainstream wave we have to think of them as being in the early 80s.

More bands from the 70s? Well I listen to a lot of the 70s subgenres of classic rock. Glam rock, art rock, prog rock, hard rock, stadium rock, album rock, AOR rock and more. But the best bits are the one I already listed.

But as I said before: it's not like I only listen to classic rock. I love all kinds of music after the 70's and most top bands I love are from later than the 70s. But all of those bands and artist are artist that make music in a sense of post-rock. Whether that being metal, new wave, alt rock, indie, electronica, grunge, britpop and what have we? All of them wants to redefine rock based on the doctrines of what punk and krautrock told us. That the true essense of rock is not the volgure display of classic 70s rock but the pure energi and nerve of punk and the accept of modernity arriving in krautrock. Thats all good. But it killed classic rock. Rock after that was either dead or insane mainstream (do I have to say the like of Boston, REO Speedwagon, Toto, Foreigner and Journey....all good rock but very radio friendly and harmless).

Still it was a killer riff and guitar solo.

"We?" Maybe "we" should give credit to those bands who pioneered those forms of music by ackowledging the fact that Electronica New Wave and Post-Punk were genres that already esisted in the 70s.

How is "album rock" different from "AOR rock?" AOR rock if you spelled it out would be "Album-Oriented Rock rock." Classic Rock is a radio format (like Howard D mentioned) it was developed from the AOR radio format. How is AOR a sub-genre of Classic Rock?

If you ask me some Punk bands (especially when it came to hardcore Punk) were more vulgar than Rock bands in the 70s.

I give credit to those bands.

Properly my bad. I have always been a little confused what is labeled album rock, stadion rock and AOR. So a good bet is that is me who use them wrong. Just that I do listen to bands in that family of rock.

Hehe, yes. It's not my words....its what many punk bands themselves have said and what many commentators have repeated. The T-Shirts with "I hate Pink Floyd" pretty much says it all.
