Some groovy smooth jazz elements, and plenty of influence on the loose drumming. The sax is a big part of it, and it is definitely played in a jazzy way, if a bit avant-garde as well.

SUGGEST ME AN ALBUM - I'm probably not going to listen to it but I will if you bother me enough.

It's like your just randomly throwing around words.
It's almost free jazzy.

1. Carole King - Tapestry

7. The Doobie Brothers - Minute by Minute
8. Three Dog Night - It Ain't Easy
9. Van Morrison - A Sense of Wonder
10. Moody Blues- Long Distance Voyager

Jazz-Rock (different from jazz-fusion)
1. Chicago - Chicago Transit Authority

3. Santana - Caravanserai
4. Jeff Beck - Blow By Blow
5. Hatfield and the North - Hatfield and the North
6. Magma - Magma

Alright...

I think we need an Art Punk list, or we need to remove one of the Post-Punk albums, for one critical reason. Television is in no way, shape or form, Proto-Punk. It just has nothing to do with the rest of the albums on that list, and much more to do with the Post-Punk scene of the late 70s and early 80s. With this change, I propose that Television come off of Proto-Punk, and be replaced with Here Are The Sonics!!! The Sonics could easily be replaced with another Garage Rock album. Up to you all, though.

And those three "cats" are up because why not.

EDIT- Frown, the EP or LP Duck Stab?

Is Television in proto-punk? Well, I'll see about that. It's fun looking through the lists, anyway.

Actually, first, let's take Wire out of post-punk. Wire's Pink Flag is artsy, and not posty. The went into post-punk later on in their career, I think the next album. I think we should replace it with... I've heard some good stuff about Siouxsie and the Banshees, so let's go Juju. Let's do a post-punk revival list as well.

1. Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights
2. The National - Boxer
3. Franz Ferninand - Franz Ferninand
4. The Walkmen - Bows + Arrows
5. Editors - The Back Room
6. Bloc party - Silent Alarm
7. The Rapture - Echoes
8. The Sounds - Crossing the Rubicon

And anyone can finish that. As for Art Punk...

1. Television - Marque Moon
2. Wire - Pink Flag
3. Talking Heads - 77
4. The Fall
5. Cardiacs - On Land and in the Sea
6. Public Image Ltd. - First Issue
7. Flipper - Gone Fishin
8. Brainiac - Hissing Prigs in Static Couture
9. Patti Smith Group - Wave
10. MX-80 Sound - Out of the Tunnel

Television were one of the founding bands of the New York CBGB scene, before punk ever broke. When they started out they actually did play a very proto-punk style, and it was only later that they evolved to what you hear on Marquee Moon.

I don't care what list they're on, but saying that they simply aren't proto-punk is to ignore history.

But none of their albums are proto-punk. Television was their debut studio album. Slthough, I agree with your point.

It's not like proto-punk is a real genre with a defined sound. It's just a bunch of bands that were somewhere on the path to punk, and Television were a direct link in the chain.
