Also, it's not 1992.

Before the Nirvana naysayers come out of the woodwork:

1. Nirvana never claimed to invent grunge.

2. Cobain hated labels; therefore, hated the word grunge.

3. Nirvana never claimed to be original.

4. Cobain admitted he was inspired by many bands.

5. Steal from one person, it's plagiarism. Steal from many, it's research.

6. They were very popular before Cobain died.

7. They had many great songs besides Smells Like Teen Spirit, Lithium, Come As You Are, Heart Shape Box - that didn't get any radio time.

8. It's sometimes okay to like the most popular band of a decade.

Actually, many grunge fans consider the first grunge band to be Green River.

Even U-Men to some, oddly enough. Yeah, they played dirty punk in Seattle, but it's kinda weird when they sound more like Reverend Horton Heat than Tad.

I'll check that dictionary, but in the meantime I'm impressed - as is everyone else in the world - by your eloquence, obvious accomplishments and success, and the evidence of your blazingly high intelligence.

I can see it, though. U-Men later started adapting a sound closer to grunge. I suppose they were the first to really influence it.

Kurt Cobain listed Mazzy Star as one of the top best rock bands in the 90s

Your point? They formed in 89, but their first album came out in 1990. If you think about it, the terms are really decided on by the date their first official release comes out. Otherwise, Scorpions would be a 60's band.
