I would argue that "teen angst" isn't a defining characteristic since it's prominent in plenty of other genres as well.

Cause Kurt hated the term grunge and Grohl thought it was funny. I hear at that time their love life was undergoing some trouble as well.

Hey. I've heard plenty of genres over and over again, like any music buff. Grunge's angst, and I've been over this before, is notably different from anything else's angst. It feels somewhat like a cry to the world in the form of a mopey teenager telling you he's better than you because he doesn't follow rules.

Take that angst made of anger and sadness and annoyance, and transcend it into your alternative music with raspy guitars, heavy metal and punk influence, tap cymbals very often, sing lazily and deep, use catchy rhythms and play them over and over again, make sure they all emphasize your annoyance, and you have grunge. Of course, this is my definition from listening to Ten, Nevermind, Bricks are Heavy, Papa Inflable (an Argentine grunge album), Badmotorfinger, and just about every grunge album I can think of.

I'd say Cornell's vocals are anything but lazy.

I'll check that dictionary, but in the meantime I'm impressed - as is everyone else in the world - by your eloquence, obvious accomplishments and success, and the evidence of your blazingly high intelligence.

They're atmospheric.

That's because grunge, like other genres, are combined to make a distinct sound. Soundgarden is also heavy metal, and they have clear Zeppelin influence.

Does grunge have any fashion connotations?

Yep. But even I wouldn't dress like that, tho. I'm a music guy, not a music culture guy.
