Best 90's rock band?

He's talking about "pop" in the sense that it's popular enough to gain the marketing term. But he seems a little to sunk in the term.

Well I hope you've taken some time over the last two and a half decades to discover their earlier records.

No, they really blew up in the 80s. The biggest album and biggest single they ever had were in the 80s.

I never said they weren't rock! Are you even reading my posts? All I said was they weren't part of the genre "pop!" ive listened to Daydream Nation and Sister. Sister actually has one of my favorite songs from them Catholic Block. To me SY doesn't sound like an 80's band or a 90's band for that matter, I can't tie their sound to a specific era however their image as a band i tie to the 90's.

You should know im not basing what im saying on research, im basing it on experience. i came to know GNR through Use Your Illusion. i was too young to remember anything before that although i do remember Welcome to the jungle being a huge hit.

Yep, "Welcome to the Jungle" was a huge hit... in 1988. Though not as big a hit as "Sweet Child 'O Mine", which went to number 1 a few months earlier.

Well Sonic Youth and their peers in the 80's all had very original and distinct sounds but were all rooted in a post punk framework. These bands were: Big Black, Dinosaur (later Dinosaur Jr.), The Butthole Surfers, and Swans.

I was 5 in 1988.
