This is something else. Psychedelic black metal is such a small niche, but all of it is so good, and it couldn't possibly hurt to have more. This is a black metal album through psychedelic and progressive rock. They are black metal manifestations of your Led Zeppelins and your King Crimsons. It is very little known but a masterpiece and a real gem of metal.

It exists. And it is so good.

Yellow Eyes can obv be compared heavily to Krallice, who are among the big boys of modern metal. But YE is a lot rawer and succinct. Basically sounds like Krallice playing "true black metal". And that's just badass. I love Krallice but they're definitely a polarizing band and get bashed a lot by the non-posers for abandoning tradition. Yellow Eyes are great for them I'd think. The ultra intricate riff onslaught if Krallice is presented here in an older school sounding way. It's very captivating

Killer black metal (all written and performed by Chris Griggs, although the band now has more members) that ties some of the ethos of second-wave black metal with, what I'd consider to be, shoe-gaze elements, a la Alcest. A Spell for the Death of Man was released in 2008, but the style is timeless.

This has been on repeat for a better part of the week. Found a copy on Amazon for $12. Oh yeah.

First song on the record, sets the tone for what you'll be hearing throughout.
Honestly if you see that thread here and don't check it out then why even live

Forest of Fog (MA link), Swiss black metal with a melodic bent. One man side project of Eluveitie's Ivo Henzi. Truly a tremendous amount of skill on display. Between the composition and performance, I can hardly think of a more singularly talented musician in black metal. Pretty sure the drums are from a machine, but whatever. Too much energy dripping out of your speakers.

The similarities actually extend to their both having releases on Gilead media, whom I quite recommend.

Mastery - VALIS

Well this is fun. A blistering shred feat of hyper experimental black metal like Liturgy when they're not being gay queers. But this album is free improv? :0

And still they manage to unleash a sharp barrage of sick riffs and raping

^ I tried. A bit too disonnant throughout for my taste. I get the appeal though.

Blood of Kingu - De Occulta Philosophia. From the minds behind Hate Forest and Drudkh comes yet another take on the classic black metal formula. Fantastic stuff.

Edit: didn't mention, there is a strong Inquisition-vibe throughout. Frog-vox for life

This has a retro heavy psych sound, but combined with raw black metal. It's like "Black Juju" by Alice Cooper, heavy on the black. I say a lot of albums are awesome but this is one of the higher tier stuff. Really good for fans of BM and acid rock
