Far too many death metal bands have wimpy production, which 100% kills the heaviness. Especially when it comes to drums. If it sounds like you're playing a drumkit made from cardboard, that's not exactly heavy.

I think it's the way that DM has such a vein of creativity that it makes the music more disconcerting and causes it to feel like a more genuine form of violence. Grindcore can be very redundant and that lessens it imo. Kind of like the difference between a shooting at an armed robbery and a twisted serial killer with motives deeper than just killing a witness. Of course there's an abundance of crossover between the genres so maybe we're seeing the same thing.

Maybe you're just not listening to enough generic death metal. Kind of kills the genre mood.

DM, especially post millennium DM, has less generic groups overall though, wouldn't you say?

Gimme the **** that's ****ing violent and not just creative. I want death metal that makes you **** your pants and gives you skull fractures while you give your kids skull fractures. But yeah there's plenty of creative ****. Plenty of absolutely weird **** that I don't get from grindcore simply because it's a genre that isn't as beholden to intensity. But I do want to make kids **** their pants tbh.

the word "industrial" has not even been mentioned in the thread yet. I did a search

so yeah this is heavier than most stuff here put together

this is Whitehouse playing metal (and good) music

and this is what that would sound like if it were more outrageous https://drughonkey.bandcamp.com/

something that people would legitimately refer to as "torture doom" should probably be heavy right

I dunno how this compares to everything else but i guess it's still cool kinda

I should really give Artificial Brain another chance. The way I see them, they seem to define the phrase noodles over substance.
