Deftones

Who here likes Deftones? Who hates them? I want to know. Tell me.

I like them. I think they are a very good band.

TheBig3 03-22-2005 08:00 PM

I think Chino's an arrogant waste of talent (or lack their of) I like some of their songs but I saw them alive and assumed their were techinical problems they were so bad. But tracks like Root and Passenger are good.

But over all impression with them is so so, Chino, in my mind, is the Scott Stapp of the Deftones. I think their drummer is excellent though.

PopIsDead 03-22-2005 08:04 PM

Their drummer is probably the most talented member of the band.

riseagainstrocks 03-23-2005 06:08 AM

they have good songs and bad songs. they get to repetitive at times. thats my problem. probably wouldn't pay to see them live.

leftinkowloon 03-23-2005 07:55 AM

use to be one of my fav bands and i will always like them. around the fur and adrenaline were amazing cds

ArtistInTheAmbulance 03-23-2005 08:07 AM

Im gonna agree with riseagainst... They do get repetitive quick. I used to love 'em, but I think I heard too much of them.

wonderwhy 07-09-2005 10:05 AM

new band from Deftones

The lead singer of one of my fav bands, The Deftones, has finnally released an album from his side project Team Sleep. I was skeptical of it at first but have picked up the debt album and thought it rocked! They remind me of the Deftones but have a unique sound. Check out some cool behind the scenes videos of them on http://www.budweiser.com/1

Electric Ocean 07-09-2005 10:32 AM

I heard about this a while ago but I've yet to check them out, I think I'll look for some MP3's now though.

Metal_maniaC 07-09-2005 12:47 PM

Sounds pretty cool, I always thought the Deftones had some how revolutionized the rock scene

Metal_Warrioress 07-09-2005 08:50 PM

i like the Deftones...ill check them out :) thanks man

FunkyFish 07-11-2005 07:12 AM

I really don't like Team Sleep but love the Deftones

Deftones

Ok so back in the day I listened to the Deftones. Not so long ago now that I think about it. Needless to say my taste in music has changed for the better seeing that I dont listen them anymore. Anyway, here's the reason I'm posting this. While the Deftones aren't really that great of a band or the most original. Compared to the nu-metal they were coming up with and still touring and etc. with, Deftones were original. At the time no one really sounded like them, and Chino's scratchy voice definitely brought a uniqueness to the band that other bands didn't have. Also, Deftones sound weren't really altered by current trends of the time. Disturbed, Korn, Limp Bizkit, Staind, all of these bands were terrible.

sexy_drug 08-19-2005 10:19 PM

Yeah I agree with you, But I think that Deftones are pretty good and Disturbed are ok becuase there newest album was a huge let down

NaNaNer 12-26-2006 09:19 AM

Now here is one of those bands that sound awesome in studio on tape then live. And it maybe that BOTH times I saw them Chino was having a bad day..but they sucked live..to the point I actually felt bad for spending the money on the ticket..but I can so jam to them while listening to them on stereo...they did a track with Tool..well..Maynard..at that rocked and they collaberate really well with other bands..but I wouldnt see them live..ever...again...

The Unfan 12-26-2006 09:35 AM

Pretty lame band. I just can't seem to get into anything roughly nu-metal related.

=ladyface= 10-11-2007 04:04 PM

If I didn't get here so late I would've voted for White Pony. That album is incredible.

I love the way Chino can make screaming sound beautiful. :p:

Deftones really changed my taste in music when I was younger.

Zer0 10-12-2007 02:42 AM

Deftones are great, loved the last 3 albums, but stop bumping old threads please ^^^^^^

=ladyface= 10-12-2007 05:30 AM

I asked the powers that be if I could and they said it was fine.

TheGreatestNerd 10-12-2007 10:16 AM

I watched a song of their's on Scuzz, I don't know what it's called but it was set in a high school...I've never disliked a song and singer so much on the first watch.

LouDog 10-12-2007 11:38 AM

went and saw them live last year on my birthday, they were amazing! ive never seen a show quite so good.not only did he play his new cd,but he played alot of his old stuff like Knife Prty and back to school! there real cool.

mannequin Republic 10-12-2007 12:47 PM

I absolutely adore the deftones. I've been a fan since I was a kid and first heard Adrenaline. They don't have the most technically skilled strings section of all time, but they redeem themselves by playing very aggressively. Abe's drumming is stellar, and his timing is so strange I often get lost in the drumming when I listen to them. Chino is also one of my favorite vocalists. I've never been able to get into metal, or most hardcore because I can't stand the growling vocals, and I'm into the whisper to scream thing that Chino does so well, so they naturally appeal to me.

I own all their albums, I love them all, although the 2nd half of Saturday Night Wrist is kind of disappointing, I've been expecting a bad album since White Pony came out, and thankfully they're proven me wrong.

=ladyface= 10-12-2007 01:23 PM

I was expecting that self-titled album to be a disappointment because I'd read bad review after bad review and I never thought they'd make anything as perfect as White Pony again. But Deftones was a good effort and it's now my second favourite album of theirs. :p:

Saturday Night Wrist cool but I agree that it does seem to lose something in the second half.

anticipation 10-13-2007 12:49 PM

I've never been impressed by them, and honestly don't see what all the fuss is about.

Ashex 10-13-2007 04:18 PM

I.m.o the Deftones are a horrible band and should die in a fire! :D

have you ever listened to team sleep? he sounds amazing

=ladyface= 10-14-2007 04:12 AM

I have, yeah, although I've never got into them properly. I should probably give them another go.

Oh, I really want to see Chino live in some form. :(

Whats wrong with bumping old threads exactly. i think its a healthy change of pace from the donkeys that create a new threat every time their favorite song pops up on top 40 radio.

ThunderHORSE 11-02-2007 02:04 AM

Man, I love The Deftones. I haven't listened to them in awhile, but this thread has inspired me to go dust off my old White Pony album.

joyboyo53 11-06-2007 09:36 AM

I saw them live last year and thought it was a pretty good show. They are not my ideal flavor of music, but I recieve some of their tunes quite favorably. I like the side project the lead singer has going dubed Team Sleep, on their myspace page there is a really great song called 'am formant'.

djchameleon 11-09-2007 09:46 AM

I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on their last album.....I bought their last album as my first album from them and well.....I don't know....

DearJenny 11-10-2007 11:32 PM

Tie between White Pony and Around the Fur.

The only hoodie from a band that I own is a Deftones hoodie from their latest tour. It has a tiger on it.

O'Bannion 11-13-2007 08:26 AM

I love Passenger. I love that album entire actually.

melindash 09-26-2009 02:20 PM

Loving Deftones right now

I used to think there was a girl in this band. No joke, but it's just the guitar. How awesome is that.

melindash 09-26-2009 02:27 PM

Deftones f'n rock

Unknown Soldier 09-26-2009 02:32 PM

I think their first two albums Adrenaline and Around the Fur were pretty solid albums from what is really an average band, even if I have a soft spot for them. In general most Nu Metal acts are pretty average. In fact, the only album from that whole genre that I would classify as really being a great album, is the first Korn album also Limp Bizkit`s first album gradually grew on me.

melindash 09-26-2009 02:37 PM

Any song on this list rocks my world!

almauro 09-26-2009 07:09 PM

I must say, Around the Fur is one of the few nu-metal records that bears repeated listenings.

Violent & Funky 09-26-2009 09:37 PM

As far as nu metal for me they rank number three:

1. System of a Down
2. KoRn
3. Deftones

Dr.Seussicide 09-26-2009 09:41 PM

Gosh I love this band. I remember the first time I listened to The Passenger and The Chauffeur, good times...
