Keith Moon is the best known example of a rock drummer. He didn't just play the drums he attack them! Pure, raw energy built around the vocals and guitarists in the Who. Neil is probably a better drummer from a technical standpoint, but in my opinion does not hold a candle to Keith Moon's enthusiasim.

Yes but Neil is the last man standing!

Keith is known for his drunken antics and that somehow passes him out as being the best drummer ever There were/are plenty of Jazz and Rock drummers that were just as good or even better than Keith Moon.

Neil is an avid reader who writes sophisticated lyrics. He has introverted personality, and maybe that translates into having less enthusiasm, but not from my pov, it takes certain drive to become that technically proficient.

More of a trained drummer would have to go to Neil Peart, but Keith Moon was a total crazy monster on the drums and I liked that style.

From a technical perspective, Keith Moon was a terrible drummer. He was always drumming off tempo and played every song like a drum solo... But I still think he was fantastic.

I can't tell you much about Neal Peart except Rush fans think he's the greatest drummer in the world. I tried to listen to Rush a few times and I just didn't get it. To me, Rush sounded like a typical faceless arena band, in dire need of well written songs.

I wouldn't say greatest drummer in the world, but he definitely is great. You may not hear his skills as much in the music, but check out this solo:

Whatya think?

I like moons style better. His fills are just so different than other drummers on something like "Bargain" and i find him more fun to watch. Peart is more precise and complex and also amazing. Very tough choice. I have not heard anybody really able to mimic Moons style.
