Songs from Kate Bushs best period would be her early 70s material, as well as her work with David Gilmour.

Mike Oldfields most well known album would be Tubular Bells.

And you are probably right, but you never really answered my question about punk rock. It has its own forum, not a sub-forum in the rock forum but a forum of its own, thats not even what im asking for, all im asking for is a sub-forum, and i would certainly settle with having a forum for both prog and classic rock even though im not too fond of that idea, if it equals a prog forum, i am all for it.

Come to think of it, a Prog & Classic Rock forum would probably attract more posters than just a prog forum...And i also think that if one started a topic about the beatles, they would get less responses like this.

"DA Beetlezzz SUx, listen to Children of Bodom D00dz! L0lZzZ"

Since the rock forum is mostly threads about modern bands and there are several posters who seem convinced that everything before 1981 is crap, even though we are all aware that classic rock fans are alive and well on this forum...Like kashmir said, segretating classic rock fans who dont like modern music from fans of more contemporary music with little or no taste for classic rock would easin all the major tension between the two.

Yeah, i agree with Kashmir on something, i hope that dosent hurt my credibility.

bring it up with Gregb, he makes the final decision with any additional forums get built, i dont see the need for it though, honestly, i think it will end up just one more forum that the mods will have to clean up. the more specific you get for a forum, the more specific the threads will have to be. Right now you can pretty much post about any rock band in the rock forum and you wont have anybody saying it doesnt belong, because it isnt specific to a genre. The punk and Emo threads limit the types of band you can post and thats where we get alot of the crap we end up having to clean up. As to why there is a punk thread, well if you look at it, its discuss the punk scene, sure its a sub genre of rock, but the punk scene is pretty much against everything rock stands for (almost anyway), and like misfits said, its a popular genre. Emo got its own sub forum because of the arguments when ppl tried to post emo bands in the punk forum. emo bands definetly dont go in a punk forum, or a rock forum, but sure theres a connection between them all. all im saying is the more specific we make the forums, the more arguments will happen. but take it up with Greg, he may disagree and build it for you.

And so is the prog scene. "4/4 time is for losers", a common philosophy among progheads.

Me or Merkaba could mod the prog forum, or both of us could...Either way, im sure that if someone makes a thread about simple plan, it will be locked before someone even posts on it.

And PM GregB i will do, it might be easier if he has AIM though, does he?

not sure, but hes on quite a bit, youd get a pretty quick response from him. If it does get built be prepared for the people who dont agree certain bands fit the genre, its bound to happend. everyone pretty much has their own idea of what certain genres are and which bands make up that genre, its inevitable and will definetly happend.

Well, Hookers and Merkaba asigned me for their rock history project, which is to clear up any confusion about genres. Obviously i will be working on prog history, i will do what i can to be specific enough without being too specific, if that makes any sense.

What makes a progressive rock band is based on some very specific characteristics(odd time sigs, lengthy compositions, diverse musical influences, etc), but at the time time, what makes a band prog can sometimes (but not always) be subjective. For example, theres no denying that Yes, King Crimson and ELP are prog, but weither or not bands like Queen, Radiohead or Tool qualify is often a matter of debate. Though, in my opinion they would qualify, they dont have all the characteristics of prog, but they do have enough to qualify, and ones subjective opinion should not effect the way the forum works, and i would certainly see to it that it wont. So if someone made a Styx thread, i wouldnt mind, but i would draw the line with bands who clearly fall into other genres of music.

To avoid people making threads about non-prog bands, perhaps we could have a thread where people could ask about or discuss the classification of a band.

That would be a great idea, something to consider.

that is true there would be arguing whether or not a band is progressive. There are alot of borderline groups like queen, tull, styx, and others. I consider tool progressive because of songs like third eye, and practically the whole album lateralus is progressive.

I would consider Tull to be much more than borderline prog, if making a whole album with just one 40 minute long song isnt prog, i dont know what is.
