The Smiths aren't on the list..? Man, that's got to change right now!

Jann Wenner, editor of Rolling Stone, apparently approves every nomination to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and it's more of an institution honoring his personal taste in music.

I'm not a big fan of the Monkees but in 2007, Monkees bassist Peter Tork came forward and alleged to the New York Post that Wenner is excluding the group:
Quote:
“ [Wenner] "doesn't care what the rules are and just operates how he sees fit. It is an abuse of power. I don't know whether The Monkees belong in the Hall of Fame, but it's pretty clear that we're not in there because of a personal whim." Tork believes Wenner doesn't like the fact that The Monkees, who were originally cast as actors for a TV sitcom, didn't play their own instruments on their first two records. "Jann seems to have taken it harder than everyone else, and now, 40 years later, everybody says, 'What's the big deal? Everybody else does it.' Nobody cares now except him. He feels his moral judgment in 1967 and 1968 is supposed to serve in 2007.

Yea its based off the decision of one man and he inducted his own self in the Hall and he is not even a musician lol

He snubbed a lot of artists. He snubbed Donna Summer for over a decade and they just recently inducted her last year because of her death.

WAR has been overlooked countless of times as well.

HUGE Kiss fan here! I don't think they should retire pe se, I do think there are certain ASPECTS of Kiss that should be retired though. Most notably the makeup and outfits. AND the merchandising! For all intents and purposes, the image BELONGS to the original lineup only, no matter what business arrangements the guys made between them. It's nothing less than disgraceful, to be kind.

That said, I'm perfectly fine with Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer in the band. It's just UNCOMFORTABLE seeing them dressed as Ace and Peter. They're both solid players who don't need to mimick two original members. Of course, I can't blame them one bit for doing it though. They've earned their place in a VERSION of Kiss. No matter how wrong Gene and Paul are for that decision.

At the end of the day though, it's the SONGS of Kiss that are most important to me and always have been. The image was simply the icing on the cake. Still, it's a lethal combination that has yet to be matched by ANYBODY in the history of American popular music. They definitely put a new spin on an old idea. It worked! Great comments everybody pro AND con.

Why does almost everyone here trash the name of KISS? I thought that everyone is supposed to love a clown - or why not four of them!

So by that logic you're an Insane Clown Posse fan?

I am not a major Kiss fan - although I do listen to some of their uptempo songs every now and then (I stay away from the plodding songs).

Well, I did not say that the four jerks in the painted faces are good clowns. There is a difference between being funny and merely being silly and dumb. The Three Stooges had more brains than Kiss!
