I can listen to rock music when I'm on my own, but I'd never dare to tell my parents that I love The Beatles. They know that I like rock music, but we never talk about that at home.

The Beatles
Queen
Pink Floyd
Led Zeppelin
Deep Purple
Eric Clapton (specially with the Yardbirds, Cream, Derek and the Dominos)
The Who
Jimi Hendrix
Janis Joplin
Genesis
Rainbow
Eagles
The Yardbirds
Jeff Beck
Dire Straits
Gary Moore
The Beach Boys
The Kinks (their melodies are perfect)
The Hollies (Bus Stop is one of the most beautiful tunes I've ever heard)
Jefferson Airplane
The Animals
Santana
Creedence Clearwater Revival
Simon & Garfunkel
Aretha Franklin
Van Morrison
AC/DC (but it depends a lot)
P.S.: I don't know why, I've never liked the Rolling Stones. I've tried really hard but I don't get them.
I don't like Bob Dylan either for the same reason (I like him as a songrwriter though)

Neil Young is pretty rad, he's the Canadian Bob Dylan, even tho you said you didn't like him. Eh. Also, Deep Purple rule!

But your parents are OK with prog rock for some reason? (opera rock isn't a thing)

opera rock
You never heard Tommy called a rock opera? She means concept albums.

Then why list it as a genre?

Yes, cause they used to listen to some prog when they were young: Pink Floyd with Waters, The Who (Tommy and Quadrophenia), Genesis (specially with Peter Gabriel), and some of Queen's early albums (Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack) + Hotel California by Eagles (for some reason I still don't know). And that's everything.

Well, I like Bob Dylan, but I don't understand why "Like A Rolling Stone" is the best song of all time.
Deep Purple obviously rules. I understand Robert Plant being no. 1 rock singer, but Ian Gillan is very close. Ritchie Blackmore was a very original guitarist, too.

Gillan had a huge vocal range back then

They only allow you to listen to the music they listen to? Oh my. This calls for some teenage rebellion, and you know what's great for that? Punk music!
Also, it's not ok to tell anyone they should listen to Hotel California under any circumstance
