Haiku Contest
 

Some dimiss haikus due to their brevity, but in actuality they are one of the most difficult structures to write in: you have seventeen syllables to paint a picture that will last--haikus are generally focused on physical images, rather than abstract ideas or symbols.

To appreciate this powerful medium of prose: a contest! Keep them serious, please; and feel free to critique, though I'd prefer entries over criticisms. Make sure to give them names: after a sufficient number have been posted, we can make a poll to decide the 'best' haiku--one entry per user, please.

Here's my entry, which I wrote for a poetry project not too long ago:

The City Slumbers

The city slumbers
unaware of the thunder
on the horizon.

na na na na na
na na na na na na na
na na na bat-man!

I <3 long titles, especially when they have the same amount of syllables as the piece itself.

To Pirouette Again Under the Curious Gaze of the Watcher

On a silver sheet
We danced in a figure eight
As we kissed through glass.

Bump, cmon!

Postcards Push
There is a staleness
in the air, below my feet
the wind won't blow here


I did it cause ethan told me to.

(Last line is four syllables.)

I made a few

MDL
We had the cosmos
But sold it for secrecy
Enjoy your future

Sleep
As I shut my eyes
Under the moonlit night sky
You shine on, my star

Sorry
Light pitter-patter
Soothing rain upon our house
The cake is ruined

Vitamins
I had me a grape
I had me another grape
Major pukage

The ironic twist of fate on a slippery road
Just for once I would
like to get to know you too
Car crash ruined it
Blah.

do tanaka count, ie 31 sylibles 57577 pattern? if so i have some to post up here to, if not i'll post then in a set of haiku instead.

right now a haiku:

sleep amoung the stars
come to me my love
let us frolic in the feilds
and fall among the blooms

I believe the term is 'tanka'; and sure, that's a variant form of haiku; go for it.
