Default shellyron's Songwriting Journal

We celebrate the mongrel breed
who breed for fun and not to form.
We scatter joyous wanton seed
to swamp the breed
who fix the norm.

Default A Stroll On The Dole

They sent me away for a stroll on the dole,
On a downhill road, hard as flints;
Onwards and downwards for mile after mile,
Finding it harder and harder to smile;
Down to the bottom of life's midden pile
Where I caught a bad dose of the skints.

A dose of the skints is a terrible thing;
It's worse than a dose of the pox.
It gets in your pockets, it gets up your nose;
Sometimes your elbows and often your toes
Come popping out of your sleeve or your shoe
Releasing the pong in your socks.

Down here at the bottom things always get worse
With never a hint of things better.
They wonder why we make such a big fuss
It's not happening to them, it's happening to us,
When things collapse they collapse on us;
With the law stamping hard on the debtor.

In our impotent rage we look up to the top
We see gluttony bulging from wallets
So full that they're bursting with ill-gotten gains
With so much to spare that it's running down drains
All nicked off the workers along with their brains
While the rest of the world's eating bullets.

Now Ive strolled down this road for a year and a day
I'm a long-term unemployed
But the road back up is a hell of a climb
And many like me are turning to crime
Getting arrested and doing their time
And becoming more than annoyed.

So don't let them send you away down that road
Or the rest of your life will turn sour
For it's coming to you as it came to me
They're not going to stop at millions three
You think you're safe? Don't wait and see.
Fight back, while you've still got the powere

Default A Wee Singul Skinner

A Wee Singul Skinner
by Colin Cameron

I love it when a Monday comes
And I gang intae toon
Tae cash ma pension, dae the shops
An tak a look aroon
The price o awthin's gawin up
But it disnae get me doon
Ah hae a wee singul skinner
As ah tootle roon the toon.

A wee singul skinner as ye tootle roon the toon
A wee singul skinner as ye tootle roon the toon
The price o awthin's goin up
Don't let it get ye doon
Jist hae a wee singul skinner
As ye tootle roon the toon.

I grew a couple grass plants
Cos it's cheaper
Well, it's free
I got the seeds frae Thai grass
That wir dealer selt tae me
It's tasty, it's the berries
And it's very plain to see
Wir dealer gets the best o gear
Tae punt tae yooz n me.

So I grew ma few wee grass plants
And looked forward tae the crop
When in burst ten policemen
Who said, "You'll huff tae stoap"
They took me tae the Sheriff
And I said, "It's for the pain".
Sheriff Evans said, "OK then.
But don't come back again".

A wee singul skinner as ye tootle roon the toon
A wee singul skinner as ye tootle roon the toon
The price o awthin's goin up
Don't let it get ye doon
Jist hae a wee singul skinner
As ye tootle roon the toon.

I grew some mair the next year
Cos I wiz still in pain
The polis came an huckled me
I said "No not again!"
George Evans winked, "I sympathise"
And asked me "Where's the pain?".
"It's in ma bloody neck", ah sez
"they've busted me again!"

The Sheriff looked across at me
His face a furrowed froon
"I have no choice about it.
Yer fined a hundred poon"
"I'll no be payin that" I thought.
"They'll have tae hunt me doon".
So I left the court, lit up a joint
And tootled roon the toon

A wee singul skinner as ye tootle roon the toon
A wee singul skinner as ye tootle roon the toon
The price o awthin's goin up
Don't let it get ye doon
Jist hae a wee singul skinner
As ye tootle roon the toon.

I didnae pay a penny
So I knew that they would freak
It widnae tak them long tae hiv me
Up before the beak
They took me to the Means Court
And said, "A pound a week"
And if I didnae pay it
I'd be really up the creek.

I didnae pay that either.
I was really in a mess.
I waited for the door to knock
Each day was full of stress
But I couldnae see why I should pay
Because, you must confess
That grass as medication
Should be on the NHS.

A wee singul skinner as ye tootle roon the toon
A wee singul skinner as ye tootle roon the toon
The price o awthin's goin up
Don't let it get ye doon
Jist hae a wee singul skinner
As ye tootle roon the toon.

Then a mystery benefactor
Came knocking at my door.
He said he’d pay my fine for me.
I couldnae ask for more.
It made headlines in the papers
That I’d escaped the jail,
Which only goes to show you
Solidarity cannae fail.

So I dinnae grow the grass nae mair
Tho ma back is ayeways sair
I buy it frae the dealers
But it costs me ten times mair
The price o dope keeps gawin up
Don't let it get ye doon
Jist hae a wee singul skinner
As ye tootle roon the toon

A wee singul skinner
As ye tootle roon the toon
A wee singul skinner
As ye tootle roon the toon
The price of awthin's goin up
Don't let it get ye doon
Jist hae a wee singul skinner
As ye tootle roon the toon.
