Default Sooth's Songwriting Journal

Here is a lineup of the songs I am going to be releasing whenever I can get a band together.

Album title: Like Father Like Son
Artist: Sooth (in debate)

CD1:
Voices-A song about a disorder one of my "friends" have. The next album's title song will deal with this protagonist and how it ruins his life.
The Master Manipulator-The increasing feeling of power I feel over others at times. The horror that I can manipulate others to do a wide variety of things. Part of my experiment I am currently running.
What Have I Become?!-A personal track dealing with one of my past relationships. The lyrics will explain more when I write them.
Inescapable Fate-Just look at the title. It is still in debate what the inescapable fate will be.
Recurrence-About a person who is constantly plagued with recurring dreams or visions. Will probably have a follow up album called Recurrence Part 2 with a subtitle.

CD2:
Like Father Like Son
1. Birth (instrumental): An instrumental track that will mainly go over the varying musical themes throughout the song.
2. Early Years: Tells of the protagonist's early years of his life which are happy memories. The musical style will be happy and upbeat, but end with an extended solo that finally gets heavy and leads into the next track.
3. Liquid Curse: Talks about the protagonist's father and his addiction to drinking. Also details how his father abuses him. The protagonist describes his father's addiction to alchohol a "liquid curse" upon the family. The song ends with sounds of the protagonist's father shouting and slamming a door.
4. Abandoned: A short and slow track that talks about the protagonist's father walking out on his family. Ends with a solo that leads into the next track.
5. Thoughts: Starts out suddenly with heavy screaming and guitar. Midway through the track it turns into a soft and sad sounding track. This part describes the protagonist's anger toward his father leaving him and his mother, but also how he is sad that the only father he ever had has left him. Ends with him questioning why his father ever began drinking and starts drinking himself because he feels it will drown out his sorrows.
6. 20 Years Later (instrumental): Inserted as a transition. This track will be long, playing previous material and then playing what is to come.
7. Darker Times: The protagonist is now around 28. He loses his job and his wife divorces him, leaving the custody of their child to him. His constant drinking magnifies the negative emotions and he starts getting violent towards his son.
8. Liquid Curse Part 2: It is the same exact tune and all of the previous track. This time around it is the protagonist's son who is being abused and the protagonist is now questioning the "liquid curse's" hold over him.
9. Like Father Like Son: The protagonist realises that he is falling into the same fate that his father did and questions why he has become the one thing that he despised most. He leaves his son with another family, hoping his fate won't be the same as himself.
10. A Lonely Death: The protagonist is drunk and driving. He crashes into another vehicle and starts to fade out of conciousness.
11. An Eternity of Repeated Mistakes: The protagonist has a vision of every generation of his family's past and sees the same thing being repeated in every single one. His final thought is that he doesn't care and brings a bottle of alchohol to his mouth and takes one final drink. He realized that it (alchohol) was the only thing he has ever really cared about.
12. Hell Follows (instrumental): The protagonist goes to hell for his sins. The track is mostly screaming and crying with industrial-type banging in the background.

Like Father Like Son is one track split up into 12 parts. Sortof like Dream Theater's Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence.

Genre:Metal/Ambience/Progressive/Soft

So, does this sound like a good concept to you all?

Cool concept. I dig the epic idea. Ditch the band name. Are these recorded? or just ideas of yours?

Ideas. Haven't gotten a band together yet. I have a little bit of the music down though. As for the band name, it was one we (me and a friend) suggested because it means "truth" and all of our lyrics have some sort of idea about life inserted as a deeper meaning. We still coming up with more.

Default Does this sound okay?

I put some random words on a page and this is what came out:

A shadow of my former self
Depressed, afraid, not good in health
A cancerous piece of skin
A reminder of my sin

Afraid, confused, don't know what to do
I wonder how i'm still living after all I have been through
And I still wonder why
This part of me had to die

I was so blind and now I see
You as a part of me that shouldn't be
I'm sorry if i've shown you hostility
I just wish to break free

Free from the time that went too fast
From the thoughts that resurface of the past
Leaving you left me broken scarred
Leaving my heart callous and hard

That's about it. I asked my friend if it sounded okay and he only liked the lines:
I wonder how i'm still living after all I have been through
And I still wonder why
This part of me had to die

I don't think it sounds quite right. It sounds so much like some rap lyrics and nothing a death metal band would be screaming.

What do you think?

A lot better than "Paper & Oil".

Do you have anything recorded?

Ditch the exact same tune idea. Maybe make it the same chord progression, but in a different scale, or something of the like.

It's awesome!
I also love that part:
And I still wonder why
This part of me had to die
