If you guys haven't already heard of it I recommend Arion Salazar's work on the Interstate '76 soundtrack. It's just bare bones funk, no padding or anything, and it's absolutely amazing, the purest funk I've ever heard. I'll link a bit later.

Mainly because if you didn't go through/experience the 'funk' era of the 70s, as funk progressed to P-Funk, etc. I suspect it would be hard to know about it unless recommended by someone. In my opinion Funk was at its best in the 70s, and you just don't have that kind of evolution going on within the current funk genre.

Progressive 70s Funk was in its form, musically equal to any 70s progressive rock from the same era.

I think a lot of younger people don't even know the 70s funk era even exist for that matter.
