Man, your best point was that Michael Vick made millions of dollars after he got out of jail, and it wasn't even relevant LOOOOL.

This argument in a nutshell:

Me: Turns out I was right, Incognito's a total douche

You guys: But there's a subculture

Me: Right, but the subculture, one which you don't have any concept of, is irrelevant, because you know, harassment and all that.

You guys: Yeah, but there's a subculture, you don't live in reality

Me: Oh, but I do. I live in my own reality, in the same society as you, and the same goes for everyone else. The subculture argument is completely irrelevant, because we all have the same rules to abide by.

You guys: Yeah but that's not what would happen in the subculture, man. The subculture, man, it's about being a man, man.

Me: Well what would you say being a man is about? Making it to the NFL? Spending your life pushing other men around, or is it taunting, harassing and intimidating your teammates?

You guys: Yeah but the subculture man, you're not even allowing any leeway for the subculture, man.

Me: Right, because the subculture is a perception

You guys: YOU'RE A PERCEPTION MAN! DON'T ****ING DISS THE SUBCULTURE YOU'RE OBVIOUSLY A STUPID LITTLE BONERHEAD WHO LISTENS TO GAY PORN YOU ALSO OBVIOUSLY ARE A LOW INFORMATION VOTER WHO MAKES LESS MONEY THAN MICHAEL VICK!!!!

Me: .....................

Can we tone down some of the insults in this thread please.

butthead aka 216 02-20-2014 08:08 AM

Thanks urban

Ftd your denial of the subculture is just confusin because everyone can agree context matters. I believe my first post after the wells report was that incignito overstepped but it was also overblown. Cause I don't think miamis locker room is as different from other locker rooms as the media and some ppl would have ya believe. Which is somethin u apparently disagree with which imo stems from u bein a girl who's never been part of a mens sports locker room at any level which is evident by your misguided and wrong opinion that grown men don't call each other pussies

What context, other than Jonathan Martin feeling belittled, should matter? How does the locker room, which we have no knowledge of, have anything to do with this context?

Anyways, it's all very circular at this point. I really don't have time to re-hash my old arguments. I think my points were significantly better, and actually illustrated points that coincided with what happened. I illustrated that Martin was harassed, and was repeatedly fined for taking exception to the harassment, as evidenced by the "fine book" that Incognito tried to have destroyed. I also questioned whether the subculture was even relevant, and I illustrated several points on that subject.

To be fair, I could have articulated points in favor of Incognito as well. As I said in my first actual statement, I can see both sides of the coin on this issue. I do realistically see that Incognito could have been legitimately trying to help Martin out socially within the clubhouse, but the subculture argument doesn't have anything to do with it. Incognito may have just not been aware that what he was doing was wrong, this isn't an uncommon trait in outgoing males, they'll be vulgar and offensive without realizing that someone might have taken offense. I actually do think that he meant well, I could have sworn I mentioned that, but maybe I deleted it for the sake of keeping the argument interesting.

I played almost every sport imaginable from middle school to high school. This includes football, cross country, baseball, track, swimming, wrestling, and tennis (was never any good at basketball lolz), and in every single locker room I was ever in for any of those sports, there were people making fun of each other, and it varied from bullying like the Incognito-Martin case to just messing around. This is how things are in sports. Sports are about being competitive and tough, it has nothing to do with some "manly" subculture, it's the sports culture. We can call Incognito a douche all day, and bringing race into the conversation is absolutely where he took it too far, but other than that there's really nothing wrong or surprising about dudes in a football locker room getting on each other's asses. Martin clearly isn't emotionally tough enough for the NFL if he can't handle a little trash talk the right way. If you don't understand this, FtD, you really just need to stop arguing because you are incredibly unqualified to discuss this topic and provide any opinions that hold any merit. You have zero evidence or experience. We also have zero evidence, but at least we have experience.
