There is a possibility America could go through to at least quarters as they're a good team, but it all depends on whether they can defend themselves to get there.

If Dempsey is the long-shot (odds wise) taker they make him out to be, I think it will be a deciding factor. Its hard to prep for loose cannons and its clearly making a difference thus far.

I`d say it was even harder as both Denmark and Cameroon are better than Algeria and Slovenia. Japan are probably a similiar level to the USA though (more technical but less physical)

Having said that. A point from the toughest match of this group is no disaster.
Interesting. US had a lot of opportunities that didn't translate into shots on target. Jozy (I believe it was) needed another inch to connect on a header, and he also booted one that keeper deflected off the post and out.

I actually thought our defense had far too many breakdowns. They allowed a lot of space, and they lost key players a lot... With Gerrard slipping behind in the 4th minute, and I saw Rooney alone in the box receiving a header or possessing the ball more than once. Poor clears, poor coverage, errant slides, etc... At times pisspoor.

England appeared to be playing cleats out contact... The game really took a turn when Heskey cleats Howard like he's sliding into 2nd base trying to break up a double play. Seemed to fire up the Americans a bit more, and they played a decently solid game after that.

I tend to reflect on a match on a general basis. It's not often I pay much interest in stats.
Overall, I thought the U.S.A. were lucky to get their point.
In some part due to their lack of penetration along with England's underachievement.
It's interesting to see how different people view the same game.
I think what is telling, is that most American's are pleased with the point and most England fans see it as a bit of a disaster and a missed opportunity.
And I think this is a reflection of how the match panned out.

To whoever replaced Fabio with Rafa - Please, please change it back :/ Subs were a bit baffling to me but hey ho. These weren't helped by the God awful performances of Lampard and Rooney.

Credit to the US for being a well organised and solid unit. They hung in there and could well have nicked it had it not been for a good save from Green (I'd like to think to Hart would have stopped it too though).

Here's hoping the current game stays 0-0! Otherwise I'm gonna go on the rob and nab my Dad's Honduras shirt for the rest of the Tourny!

I watched the first half of Algeria Slovenia, have to say I don't remember ever seeing a more turgid match. Awful.

Its a typical 1st round match between two weak teams that are terrified of losing, Slovenia with the victory have now set themselves up for a huge match against the USA whereas Algeria`s chances are going to be grim against England.

Both Algeria and Greece now have second matches that they are unlikely to win or even draw, a fact that puts them on early planes home.

Indeed, I think we can say goodbye to Algeria and Greece after their results/performances.

I definitely fancy the USA to beat Slovenia, but it'll be an interesting game... I think a draw would be a decent result for Slovenia, it would leave the Americans under pressure to beat Algeria in their final match.

England and U.S. are in some trouble with the win by Slovenia today. Suddenly it looks a distinct possibility one of them could be out, though how Slovenia will perform in the future remains unclear.

Serbia/Ghana - what a match, easily my favorite so far. At the start I wasn't sure who to root for since they both have a lot going for them, but by the time Kuzmanovic took the handball I was 100% rooting for Ghana. Great win, great story, great match.
