I have loaned out the 1042 to people on the stereo forum I am a member of so can no longer record the 1042, but once the 103 is run in a bit (only about 5 hours on it so far) I can try to record it.

Do you have Tracy Chapman's debut LP? or maybe Boston's Debut. I know you don't like Marillion. How about Blackfield?

Haha, no, no and no.
I used to have chapman's debut, but I wouldn't consider that a very good recording. It's so treble-ish it hurts.

My entire record collection is in the link underneath my postings.
There's tabs for the genres at the bottom of the page you'll see.
Pick one you know well .

Surprised you find TC has too much top end.

It's probably the brightest sounding album I've ever heard.
Together with Vaya Con Dios' Night Owls.
Oh, and Tasmin Archer's song "Sleeping Satellite".

It's a pity, because apart from that the chapman album sounds pretty good.
I mean I cannot stand the music (I used to, but it now somehow bores the crap out of me), but the recording is fine

WOULD YOU LOOK AT THEM!
Got them for free.
It's a celestion 15" woofer, a Motorola tweeter (compression driver, no piezo) and an Altai (..) horn tweeter. They sound well... pretty good actually. Loads of bass, not really deep, but it's good tight bass. The tweeters aren't sharp, they are pretty detailed. The mids lack a bit in presence, they're a bit tame every now and then, but for a simple PA speaker it's really impressive. They are way beter than any gardenparty could ask for. I really like them. I am listening nick drake through them right now and it's actually all very subtle and soothing.
They are not audiophile, but they're definitely better than excepted and when you put up the volume, they bring a huge grin to your face. They rock. And they can play very, very, VERY loud. Even with a relatively simple 2x120 watt Philips DFA888 amplifier

I picked up some 'new' gear over the weekend, all Denon from 1989, an amp PMA250II, tuner TU260, cassette DRM400 and CD player DCD520 plus a pair of Tamon EX400 speakers

I had a similar reaction. Going from an unamped HD280 to my current setup was a massive leap.

I'm still using HD 414s although I do have a valve headphone amp.
