And I love seeing your home, too! It looks so cosy with eclectic decorations in warm earth tones and dashes of blue. I like that cute little bird, the rugs, the artwork, and your gigantic house plant! There is so much to look at and wonder about. (I have a couple large house plants that have survived many years, too, and are like old friends now.)

Your guitars with their natural wood finishes fit right in and look right at home. Your Guild M-120 acoustic guitar has a gorgeous lustre.
I'm really very happy to see the lovely, inviting environment you have created for yourself. I can imagine the many happy hours that you will enjoy playing your guitars there!
Many thanks for your lovely comments on my guitars and apartment, Erica. I thought you might like the little bird on the table. There are actually two birds there – the other one is partially obscured by the guitar’s neck in the photo. I am also a fan of baskets both wicker and metal, as you may have noticed. I am Ms. Knickknacks! You have me beat in the large plants department – I only have that one plant (don't exactly have a green thumb). I’m sure all your large plants are well taken care of and thriving!

Thank you, Plankton – the Guild has greater sustain than I expected in a small guitar. I thought it would sound more compressed. My fingertips are killing me a little bit, though, having not played for many years. May have to swap the phosphor-bronze strings for Martin Marquis Silk & Steel strings I purchased (as recommended by an Amazon reviewer), although that might diminish some of the brightness of the sound.

Sweet! How many chords does it have? I have a small one with only the cycle of fifths to Bb+ to A+.

I'll have to get back with you on that left it at my boyfriend's and won't see it till Saturday. Also have to ask him that because I'm not very musically literate, especially in something so weird.

Concert bass drums rule of course, I'd definitely want one. I'm still wanting to get a hihat because of how well it can be used in free jazz. One time my friends were playing at UCSD and the venue had a concert bass drum that was about four feet wide. They asked me if I wanted to play with them on one of their weirder songs because "you're good at weird ****, dude" and I told them I'd play the concert drum with one or both of the drummer's hihat pieces. I got both and it was awesome (really droney but intense stuff).

That's one of the main reasons I kept the bodhran, because it had a similar bass drum vibe to the VU's stuff. Well, that and it was free .

If you like a brighter sound maybe try some Elixir strings. They deliver an extremely bright tone.

Elixir Acoustic Guitar 80/20 Bronze Extra Light PolyWeb Coating, .010 - .047, 11000

Will definitely get the Elixirs - thanks! Just read some positive reviews in which they're described as very bright while retaining warmth. They're durable as well, which is good because I've never liked changing strings.

I've used Elixers on my electrics and acoustic exclusively for ages. They are the best and well worth the extra money. Playing regular strings now actually feels weird.

I tried em on my PRS, and yuck. Didn't like it at all, and the lighter string tension screwed with the neck a bit. They pretty much ruined my tone too. The brightness is a bit much, and can muddy up my mix (from what I'm used to anyway). Here's an example:

Elixirs are aesthetically great for acoustics though, that's a fact.

Blame the guitar not the string.

(tried for decades and have never been able to bond with the tone of PRS guitars)

You mean you can't bond with tone like this?
