my point is that there is good and bad music and to say that there is no such thing as good and bad music in an overrated music thread is just not right... lol

My cousin once commented to me when I was on an "overrated bands" board like this one.... he said "what rating is being used for this or that band and what defines how they get that rating?" So whilke he was being quite sarcastic, it kinda highlighted to me that if something is overrated to you, you really mean to say purely that you just don't like them while others do... its a purely subjective thing removed from historical significance of a band or the quality of their body of work...

This is mostly a thread where we use the term "overrated" to let off steam at bands we don't like and thus don't perceive the need to give them the praise others give them....

i like Pink Floyd but i'll readily admit they're overrated.

i think the criteria for being overrated or not is still subjective, but certainly less so than just qualifying as "good" or "bad". yes, it's up to the listener to determine how good a band may be in reference to their reputation, but that reputation can be cemented in terms of album sales and critical reception.

It would be interesting to see where Pink Floyd would be in a community like this if every pothead in America didn't walk around in a DSotM t shirt...

Yeah definitely, I knew that album cover before I knew who it belonged to.

it also goes to show how much of a well known symbol of music it became.
