You raise chickens?? That's awesome! I want to do that too, a lot of free range egg farms (is that what they're callled?) still butcher their chicks and the criteria for 'free range' on a commercial scale is... well... not so great.
Is it a lot of responsibility? It gets kinda cold where I live, I'd imagine they'd need some sort of heated shelter?

I live down South so not sure about your region? But here, the only ones that need to be heated are the chicks, which you can put in a brooder with a heat lamp. We don't farm commercially, just a hobby farm. Want a milk cow so I can learn to make cheese, yogurt, etc... I'm obsessed with microorganisms and mini ecosystems and have been itching to colonize some dairy

I used to live in a house that had chickens and ducks and they didn't seem like a huuuuuge amount of maintenance. But I wasn't really involved in taking care of them. They seem to more or less fend for themselves as long as they have a home and food though. My brother was our neighbor and one time he came over and threw one of the chickens off the porch (it's like a 7-8 foot drop) because he thought it was going to fly and the chicken died.
