Saw a film the other night called "Dumplings".
A Korean Film.

The plot involved a woman who made special Dumplings using Secret ingredients and after eating the things it gave you special powers.
Not superhero powers as such, but it did offer the potential of everlasting youth and young looks.

Once it emerged what the secret ingredients were I felt my stomach turn. I'll not divulge anymore as I don't wish to spoil your meal, er I mean... Spoil the film.

Anyone for Dumplings??

Yeah, before I saw that all I heard was how funny it was, then I watched and mostly found it just pretty depressing.

You know, I can see the legitimacy of the criticisms I've heard of this (lack of focus, too reliant on shaky handheld cameras, weird edits, over-moralizing, etc). It's definitely not perfect, but I dunno. I understand the point of that--there's a sort of... ambience to it; the narrative becomes a thread inside a hazy but emotionally charged space, which is what experiences like that actually feel like.

I dug it.

I have to say am disappointed with ONG BAK 2... It was entertaining. But I was expecting more breaking and stomping, not to say there wasnt some. But from Ong bak 1 and Tom yum goong had me gasping from the beginning to end with all the stunts. Plus Ong Bak 2 story really really really pissed me off, I wasnt expecting the best thing since Shawshank but I was expecting to be satisfied with the end.

I don't think it's depressing at all, I thought it was very touching and inspiring, these are two guys who really enjoy what they do, they set a goal for themselves and eventually succeed, what's to be depressed about?

I don't think the intention was "ooh look at these two losers make a sh*tty horror movie, laugh at them", I think Chris Smith just found them to be two very interesting, likable guys, and they are.

I love this movie, but to each his own I guess.

I'm with you tore. That movie was just a straight up winner. I think I'll have to buy it, because I feel like it's something I'll randomly crave watching every few weeks. Most memorable lines off the top of my head:

Well part of it for me was I didn't find Mark Borchardt to be particularly likable and found his effect on the people around him to be pretty depressing. I'm not saying I didn't like the movie, in fact I liked it quite a bit. I just didn't think it was particularly funny and I certainly didn't see anything inspiring about it.

I don't understand you at all.

It's one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, the scene where they are recording screams or the scene where Mark has to keep doing retakes with his uncle, it still makes me laugh no matter how many times I see it.
