Yeah. I should be modded just so I can wipe smirks off faces when people roll into threads like this crying about how someone did something stupid and got hammered for it, just because they like the person in question and think basic decency should have to apply to them.

Dirty straight up admits he was trolling and he's proud of it. If that doesn't say "Deserved a ban", or at least "Deserved a mod stepping in" what does? Serious question. I expect an answer.

Really? He impersonated Vanilla on top of his usual trollishness. That's fairly clear, I think.

My only issue with this is I don't like the idea of retro actively applying a rule to something before it was made.

Well it's not clear, because of posts like these:

How far reaching is the jurisdiction of the mods here?

Vanilla was being impersonated in a tinychat and Dirty got banned for it?

I can understand if he was doing it in the IRC channel but he did it in tinychat.

So, If I made a group skype chat and decided that I wanted to impersonate Conan will I be banned for that?

We already discussed this on chat but no that was not why he was banned. It was for insulting other members. :)

Which gives those who don't use the chat no information.

[MERIT] 06-11-2011 01:34 PM

I hope DJChameleon doesn't get banned. He's trying to pass himself off as some guy named "Andrei" on my facebook. Everyone knows it's him!

Why wasn't he banned? So far possible reasons have been:

The video he made about thevirgin - This isn't why he was banned.
Impersonating a mod in the chat - He definitely did this, it is now thanks to him being an ass, a bannable offense, but this isn't why he was banned either.
Mooning everyone on cam in the chat - Pretty much the same as above, since it meant the rules were then OFFICIALLY extended to the IRC chat, not just in an unspoken way.
"It was for insulting other members." - Conan and Vanilla have both said this and both said that what he said was nasty and deserved a ban.

Seems to me that the first reason was irrelevant, the next 2 reasons would have gotten him instantly banned had he not been the first person to make it so such obvious "Don't be a dick" style rules were even NEEDED, and the last reason seems like a simple-as-hell way of giving you guys answers without resorting to just reposting whatever unacceptable things he said.

After all, whats the point of posting "Dirty got banned for posting this: <verbatim quote of unacceptable behaviour>", when those posts were already deleted so that the forums didn't have to deal with people requoting that bull**** everywhere?

I feel like not impersonating a mod...or anyone, for that matter...is something that should be fairly common sense. In fact, something like that should have been implied in the rules as they were. Instead, we had to spell it out.

Or on the forum in general. It's very interesting that the only time GuitarBizarre comes out of the shadows of the 'Talk Instruments' section is to side with the mods about bannings of members he does not come into contact with.

So cry about it, please, I love the way you think acting like a petulant child makes you seem endearing, rather than like someone who can't just let something thats already more than clear enough lie as it will.

You and a number of other people in this thread are just whining about not being able to dredge this up as a quote. You've been told why Dirty was banned. Multiple mods agree and have weighed in that he deserved it, and they've even clarified a number of the reasons he was NOT banned, to stop people getting confused about where they stand in relation to the rules.

At this point, all you're asking for is chatlogs of dirty being a dick to laugh at. Thats not constructive and it would bring nothing to the site apart from needless drama. You've been told he was banned for insulting other members. Thats pretty ****ing cut and dry. Just because you want the insults spelled out for you so you can laugh at them, isn't a reason for the mods to bend over backwards to please you.

Actually its mostly because the IRC has people actually discussing things, so I go there. Of course, this is an ad hominem and bears no relation to my argument, so you might want to read this: Ad hominem - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I didn't ask for anything. I thought my "don't give a ****" post was clear enough but obviously not, so let me rephrase. I don't care about Dirty's banning all that much. But I think people who do should be able to speak up and question it.

This is an ad hominem and bears no relation to my argument. If anything it helps prove my point that your opinion should have no bearing on forum decision making, considering you seem to only use it to be part of an external chatroom.

Which they've done. And they've recieved as many answers as it is reasonable for anyone to give short of reposting the whole thing as a chatlog, which would be stupid because thats exactly why the posts in question, whenever someone gets banned, are deleted. Of course, this was in the chat, so those posts were lost when the chat was finished, but the principle is the same.

We have no issues with that. Sadly, this thread tends to turn into another drama insult-fest, on top of the mods having to re-hash the same responses to the same questions over and over. That gets old.

We're all too stupid to know what an ad hominem is, good think you had Wikipedia bookmarked or this conversation would have come to a screeching halt.

Seriously, stop being a suck up. We get it, you're playing the game, you want to be a moderator on an internet forum.

midnight rain 06-11-2011 01:51 PM

Mostly though guitar, I just found it funny you would quote Urban about getting a life and then, as per your usual, go on multiple paragraph long tangents about why the mods are Gods at decision making, using your all-knowing logic. I think you just post in this thread to win arguments that no one cares about, feeding your ego. Maybe I'm wrong though.

Actually, I really don't. I'd ban a lot of people for no other reason than it would be amusing to see a forum devoid of conversation after everyone who isn't actually here to talk about music was gone.

I'm sure you would, assuming that was the direction that all of the other mods had already taken, allowing you to jump on board at the end and feign a contribution to an already finished action, right?

No, not really. I'd get modded, lie in wait for a month or two until people considered me a part of the scenery, then open up with the prick gatling and pour boiling oil over the parapets. There'd be nothing left but the decaying remains of those members who'd been banned and had all their posts replaced with goatse and admissions of cock inhalation via the anus, and random acts of unspeakable violence.

NONE WOULD BE SAFE.

Arya Stark 06-11-2011 02:04 PM

If the mods are going to explain why, they should probably communicate, so that they know the actual answer. Like I don't normally give too much of a ****, but now everyone's giving different reasons. The initial reason everyone thought wasn't even why, there's so much more to it.
If pretending to be someone else is an offense, that shouldn't be the reason he was banned because the other things he did were 1 million times worse. I'm sure Vanilla is over it.

Strip your post of the oh so clever wordplay and thesaurus usage, and all you'd be doing in reality is posting pictures of dongs and editing posts to turn MB into one big g@y joke? Bravo.

It's his attempt at humor.

Anyways I don't think people want drama so much as members do become close and enjoy the banter among each other so they're sorry to see a member they enjoyed communicating with be gone for a whole month. I know I'll miss Dirty's abrasive humor, somewhat. :afro:

Yes, but I'd be doing it with class and panache. It wouldn't just be a dick joke, it would be a monolithic, all encompassing dick joke, perpetrated with utmost care to make it seem as though the term musicbanter was in fact a gay community synonym for a bizarrely vague yet unspeakable group sex act.

Well yes it should be common sense but we are talking about a chatroom only a handful of users bother with that isn't an official part of the site.
I can understand exactly why people might think the rules of the forum wouldn't apply there and things could me more loose.

I've been a mod, I know that most bannings are never down to just one thing. I just think having some mods come out & say it was because of that he was banned was a mistake. Just say he was banned for trolling and that from now on the rules in the chatroom are going to be tighter and you would have never had this clusterfuck going on now.

And what better way to do it than to vandalise the forums in such a way as to make everything a vague allusion to rectal invasion and rainbow drops, I agree! Now you see my plans true purpose.

I might even add in a recent idea, that is, converting any avatars I can get my hands on into my little pony caricature.

I was saying important things 4 years before you even got here. Everyone read your posts.

It's discussions like this that make me want to punch a wall. Everyone's opinion is more valid than everyone else's. We're all unique, just like everyone else. Let's give a round of hugs and call it a day.

I completely agree with you. You have to understand, each mod has a different idea of what is appropriate to tell and what isn't. A certain level of discretion is preferred just because it might actually be embarrassing to the person who was banned. I'm not saying this is the case with Dirty, but we want to at least try to be consistent. Obviously, that is harder than it sounds.

I think that's what we were going for initially. I even think this would have worked if it wasn't someone with a reputation like Dirty. Oh well, it happened.

Alright?
