On Lulu, he sounds like an old man who's seen it all. And he probably was exactly that. Much of it, his vocals don't work for me, but some golden moments, there's a world of hurt and life experience in his voice. It's the main thing that keeps me from agreeing when people say Lulu was garbage.

He's never going to be a favorite of mine, but at least I can see your side of the coin.

I've never said it, but I feel about the same: I can't even enjoy the mighty Bob Dylan on his recent albums.
Mick Jagger is doing pretty well, but really, you gotta be an angry young man to be a proper rock vocalist imo.

Trout Mask Replica seems more innovative to me but I find The Velvet Underground & Nico more listenable.
