I mean the basic point is that considering yourself part of a country culturally is ****ing retarded and anyone who does so in 2018 deserves to have their head beat in with a shovel.
No offense to those who need to be bludgeoned to death. |

And that doesn't even touch upon VAT taxes that suck the life out of smaller businesses. Corporations do okay over there, but businesses below that threshold are miserable. |
FDR proposed a 100% top tax rate which eventually became 94%,
so I don't know what you're going on about. |

I had a professor way back when who said that one of the reasons we have so many loopholes and problems in our own tax code was because those marginal top rates were so high for such a long time so the rich got sneakier to find ways to skirt around them. He didn't blame FDR directly, but I think that might have been his underlying point. |

Id love to have elph sit down with my friends who actually live in Sweden and have plenty to complain about. Id like to see the look on their faces when an American tells them they are wrong.

Yeah, haha ... 🙈 my friends in Sweden and Norway and Germany and...
Look, this reminds me of the guy who has some problem that was a big inconvenience for him and complains in dramatic ways. “Oh, I had to wait months for my surgery in Canada, so the whole Canadian healthcare system is so broken...blah, blah, blah...” Please spare us. |

Unless you are living in a ****ty apartment, your down to around 10K or less if you are particularly unlucky in a typical fiscal year. Is someone greedy for wanting to live above the poverty line? |
What health related insurance? If I drop in the street, I'm getting hospitalized free of charge. If I'm on vacation abroad and get hospitalized there, insurance comes into the picture.
I'm paid a monthly wage that's considered quite low. Sure, my apartment isn't the most expensive, but I'm really doing pretty ok financially. It's not that hard to earn a living and there's plenty of safety nets when you fail to make a living for yourself. You gotta try pretty damn hard if you wanna become homeless. I just think this whining about taxes is really hard to listen to from those in my own country who both 1) earn a damn comfortable living and 2) enjoy all the benefits of a welfare society. How much money does one person need anyway? Once you got that Porsche and a huge house and whatever, please stop whining that you can't earn even more without the slight obstacle of raised taxes. |

It's like a German friend, who's well-off, being constantly asked by a reporter during an American interview,
"why don't you have a problem with these high taxes?" and the guy finally answering after being interrupted three times, "Hey! I don't want to live as a rich guy in a poor country!" |
1. I was referring to insurance that wasn't health related, AKA things the state doesn't pay for you. If you own things like cars, a home or live in an apartment, you typically need insurance for those things, no?
2. I wouldn't start a small business in Denmark or Sweden at gunpoint, welfare or no welfare. |
@rostasi calm down mate.

Why Danes Happily Pay High Rates of Taxes (in case you weren’t aware of a crucial reason for taxes).

This little girl was a classmate of the kid I nanny in the private preschool mentioned in the article. I've been following the case and am really happy with the result - groundbreaking stuff, really. |

Cost of Living Index for Country 2018 Mid-Year ....and honestly, people can't seem to address what you're going on about apparently - either because we're all numbskulls or maybe you keep going all "Bojangles" Robinson on all of us... ...but I will remind others that you can take a flat-earther around the world to prove to him the world is round, but because of his emotional obstinance to facts, the best you'll get from him is that the earth is cylindrical. |

At the end of the day, there's always a trade off. My point is that living in those countries isn't a Socialist bed of roses and the cost of living is staggeringly high and comparable to places like San Francisco over here. The infrastructure is fine in Denmark, but their neighbor Sweden is a good showcase of why prioritizing your welfare state at the expense of everything else is a recipe for long-term disaster. Let me know when there's actually some real incentive for a smaller business to set up shop there though. I'd be the first to make the move if there was a good enough reason to do so, especially since the state (in a general sense) seems more efficient than the U.S. at utilizing tax dollars. |
Was about to say part of what Elph said above. If you compare wages, costs of living, various amounts of economical help that people who have little money can get and such, you won't have to eat canned beans every day unless you spend most of your money on booze.
It's great as far as reaching some good minimum standard of living. Businesses will have a harder time than in low-tax countries, of course, but it would be great if those people who start businesses here remember that in return, they get to live in a welfare state. If your goal is just to stuff your pockets, then yes, there are better places to be a capitalist than in Denmark. |

To say nothing of how maybe, a business owner who is doing well should care about the people who aren't doing well instead of considering it "not my problem - it's their own fault!" |
