Cohen going to jail doesn't mean Trump would go to jail (its basically Cohen's word versus his on whether or not he was "directed" to pay off those women), There were a few inconsistencies in his testimony I noticed too, but maybe it doesn't mean much in the end. We'll just have to see what Mueller has up his sleeve. That's where the magic will happen (if it happens at all).

The Batlord 08-22-2018 03:02 PM

Yeah I'm sure Trump's own lawyer is gonna perjure himself just to send his client to jail. That's what lawyers do.

Implying it won't have an effect on Trump is just silly and willfully ignorant.

It definitely could, but if you are wanting to know how it could or could not lead to impeachment, it helps to study a variety of perspectives. Cause these arguments will be made. This guy, for example, worked under Bill Clinton for awhile and has a good grasp on the subject.

Mark Penn - "Cohen's plea deal is prosecutor's attempt to set up Trump"

I don't think it's that clear cut obv. I'd be surprised if nothing came out of it considering the severity of the cases. I'm no expert, but typically it's a bad thing when you're lawyer states under oath that there was involvement from the president in question even if he wasn't named.

I'll check the link a bit later. Thanks!

The critical piece here is going to come down to whether or not personal money or actual campaign money was used for those transactions. If Cohen changes his story again then he'll just end up in even more trouble than he is already, especially after being put under oath.

Trump's chances at being re-elected in 2020 are looking slim to nothing as of right now in any case, and that's for the best.

Wasn't that a topic that was discussed tho? I'm genuinely curious because I've read that though he didn't name the president by name, it was still implied that it was the current president that gave him the hush money. But I could be off base.

This also covers a fair amount of ground, but the important piece here is that Cohen didn't start getting reimbursed by Trump for his "legal services" until 2017, long after the election had run its course. Money was actually spent in 2016 by Cohen for a variety of things, plus he was doing a lot of illegal actions (like the stuff with AT&T and others who wanted access to Trump) with his practice on the side that Trump was unaware of, which complicates the situation. If Cohen was seeking reimbursement from Trump, where did he get the money in the first place? They need to prove that Cohen had access to campaign funds or some other source other than his own personal money / assets.

I don’t think this will influence the election(s)

I imagine we'll hear more from Cohen in the coming days. I'm just finding this all fascinating. It's like a humongous dramatic scene out of a movie. I do need to do more reading on it because I've just been going by news headlines and a newspaper I read at work. I'm just finding it interesting.

I remember frown doesn’t want a civil war

I want one

What do you think about it?

MicShazam 08-22-2018 11:50 PM

Wanting a civil war is idiotic. Start making sense, grandpa.

Me debating a couple of back east Trumpets....

CV: Well, he planned the murder. Hired the gunman. Chose the location. Picked the time. And supplied the gun and ammunition.

Trumpets: But he didn't pull the trigger. MAGA baby!

For real. The refusal to prosecute a president is the same as giving him the keys to a dictatorship. The bitch does the crime the bitch does the time same as anyone else. If it’s just immoral then impeachment. Straight up criminal you cuff his ass and bring him downtown. What is it? We scared what his base will do? Do it bitches. You wanna go to war? Good. So do I. Stomp a mudhole in your ass.

I really don't see why we can discuss Trump on this thread but not in a Trump thread.

Either we can discuss him or we can't.

This thread is being spammed with Donald.

If Frownland misbehaves just demod and ban tbh.

It's easier when it's an a broader thread since you don't have to stick to one topic. No surprise Trump is coming up here seeing as the media is having a frenzy over anything he does right now. Just let it happen.

I get it but this thread is mostly Donald Trump and has been since the Trump thread went. May as well have a Trump thread so we can post news that we can't believe in this thread again. It's not really unbelievable when Trump acts the twat anyway.

This is just my opinion though please don't ban me.

Frownland 08-23-2018 12:20 PM

If people are posting about it here, it looks like we don't really need an alternative, then.

Then we don't need half the threads in this section as they can all be discussed here. Please do merge them into this thread.

Probably be better actually as I could enter this thread and not see something Trump related.

CAN'T BELIEVE THAT NEWS STORY thread, is polluted with headlines about the current POTUS who's former campaign manager and personal lawyer (fixer) have been convicted and/or plea dealt over some pretty serious crimes.

Hmmm. Fits under the NEWS STORY umbrella in my world. Maybe the guy should just STFU for a few days and we'll get some other stuff creeping into the thread???

Yeah but it's believable. If he had saved a puppy or donated to BLM I could understand it being in the 'I can't believe that news story thread' thread.

Trump only has to fart for you to post about him tbh. (Trump is actually a word for a fart over here as well btw.)

MicShazam 08-23-2018 12:39 PM

In Danish, the word "tumpe" sounds kinda like "Trump". It means "imbecile".
