I was using a reworking of your statement to point to Anteater telling MicShazam how things work in MicShazam's own country.

Denmark good for families and working, but less so for social life – The Post

At the end of the day, there's always a trade off. My point is that living in those countries isn't a Socialist bed of roses and the cost of living is staggeringly high and comparable to places like San Francisco over here. The infrastructure is fine in Denmark, but their neighbor Sweden is a good showcase of why prioritizing your welfare state at the expense of everything else is a recipe for long-term disaster.

Let me know when there's actually some real incentive for a smaller business to set up shop there though. I'd be the first to make the move if there was a good enough reason to do so, especially since the state (in a general sense) seems more efficient than the U.S. at utilizing tax dollars.

MicShazam 09-26-2018 01:44 PM

Was about to say part of what Elph said above. If you compare wages, costs of living, various amounts of economical help that people who have little money can get and such, you won't have to eat canned beans every day unless you spend most of your money on booze.

It's great as far as reaching some good minimum standard of living.

Businesses will have a harder time than in low-tax countries, of course, but it would be great if those people who start businesses here remember that in return, they get to live in a welfare state. If your goal is just to stuff your pockets, then yes, there are better places to be a capitalist than in Denmark.

Well im not about to have a debate with your over it since im naive on the subject but having played video games with people all over the world its pretty clear no system is without its problems. It all depends what you expect from the boogieman.

That's true, but nobody is thinking about that when they are doing well and get to keep more of their money. But when things go bad, you might end up living in a cardboard box.

To say nothing of how maybe, a business owner who is doing well should care about the people who aren't doing well instead of considering it "not my problem - it's their own fault!"

A third woman, Julie Swetnick, has accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault, in a document she has sent to the Senate - pretty convincing as she could face jail time if her document contains lies.

At this point, it looks like Brett "Bad Boy" Kavanaugh has more accusations against him every day. I would imagine that for their own political survival, his supporters will start to peel away as of now. I wonder who will be the last person to insist on defending Kavanaugh's nomination: Trump, Grassley or Anteater?

Apparently even The New York Times can't verify the latest accuser's story. That's actually fairly interesting to me (coming from a journalistic background). You'd think they could just make up a source if they wanted to. :thumb:

You're under 30, are a successful businessman, and make the kind of armchair political suppositions usually reserved for Rush Limbaugh while having "a journalistic background"? I'm gonna have to start being dubious about your life story.

I spent two years writing stuff for sites like PopMatters during college then spent some time with the Dallas Morning News for a year after college before going full-time into business development through some connections I made during that time. I've worn a lot of hats since my teens with different jobs. My degree was in Mass Communications with a minor in Digital Media. :)

^ Thank you, Anteater and than you Joe Biden. I think most observers are aware by now that an FBI report doesn't reach a conclusion or verdict, but nevertheless it does, afaik, assemble information from which a conclusion can be drawn. For JB to call a report "useless" because of those limitations is misleading. I don't suppose an FBI report has any jokes in it either, but that doesn't make it useless.

Sure, why not? They're taking responsibility for something that could get them thrown in jail for the rest of their lives. Lot more at stake for them than someone who has an unreliable memory and can just say later "well I THOUGHT it was Kavanaugh but maybe I was wrong. Oopsie11".

both ends of your argument are grossly exaggerated

Keith Ellison is a hardline Democrat and I'm not sure I believe the accuser in his case either.

You believe in a Democrat conspiracy to smear Kavanaugh but not one to smear the accuser? I mean if you just want to start making up **** in your own head you could say that Republicans found two ****ing crazy people and are holding them up, or maybe the Republicans are paying them off along with assurances that their names will remain confidential. If you want to get the right-wing conspiracy nerds rumbling all you have to do is introduce the idea and then never talk about it again as if the men's claims have been dismissed for whatever reason.

You're willing to do that for the other side at the drop of a hat. Why not here? I mean it took me all of thirty seconds to come up with that drivel. Imagine what drivel you could come up with in a full five minutes.

Oriphiel 09-27-2018 10:51 AM

Yeah, I find these "nah, I'm the rapist" counter claims to be suspicious as ****. The only time politicians ever confess to naughty **** like that is when someone with even worse dirt on them tells them to take the fall.

Lol what are you talking about. I'm not a conspiracy theorist: Neither side can corroborate anything in this particular case. You don't think the women are suspicious but two guys who will literally go to prison for the rest of their lives are moreso. Unlike those two bozos who claim to have been the gropers, rapists, whatever, these women who testify will walk out of this with zero consequences regardless of whether or not Kavanaugh wins out because memory is malleable and they can claim as much later on. They'll go back to their ordinary lives unless a future investigation somehow uncovers more substantial evidence that implicates them later on.

My theory holds more water than the other side: Kavanaugh was questioned for 32+ hours in multiple Senate hearings and asked thousands of questions by senators on both sides of the aisle, including Feinstein. And during this period, Feinstein KNEW Ford's identity and had the letter. That's why I take the position that some part of this was orchestrated whereas under normal circumstances the Democrats might have gone months and months more without saying a single word.

WWWP 09-27-2018 11:32 AM

Zero consequences lol
