Yeah I don't buy that it wasn't intentional. I'm gonna join Exo anyway in being pro BK on this one though.

"We all live in a... in a... ah... hey Jose! Wha... wha colour... wha colour sub... sub'mrine we... we live in?" |
Is this a joke or just really lame racism?
|
^^ Do you still think "Spanish" is a race?

Second, you're mixing xenophobia and racism (most western European countries are increasingly multiracial). Third, he only used a spanish name to identify it was a spanish person. There were no ethnic stereotypes. Just spanish people high on drugs and unable to identify the colour of their submarine. :/ |

You know shit about Europe and European racism. ;)
|
I know they're racist against Spaniards.
|
 The fuck you talking about bro? Don't transpose your State-side racism against Latinos to Europe. Spain is a first world, high income, highly educated country with a great quality of life, where many many Europeans would love to move to live (and many actually have, especially British and German). Most Europeans love Spain and everything to do with Spain and Spanish people have a general reputation of being the most friendly in Europe. Stop talking nonsense...
|
So Spaniards are a friendly people huh? Nice and harmless and too dumb to ever be fascists?
|
Yeah but Spanish fascist are really friendly fascists!
Except against Catalans. Or Muslims. Or Latinos. Etc. |

Are we shocked that adidasss doesn't get racism?

On the other hand there are far more examples of Northern Europeans liking and enjoying the South (check out all the chartered flights to Spain and Italy). Also, I do believe a lot of discrimination and prejudice stems from the wealth disparity. In the States, people are prejudiced against poor latinos, not so much for their skin colour but the fact that they're poor and trying to take their jobs. Same in Europe, discrimination of the West against the East isn't about skin colour, it's about rich vs. poor. Quote:
But I have limited experience with Nothern Europe, maybe there are deep prejudices against Southern Europeans I'm not aware of. Again, not sure how this would be exhibited. |

But I am willing to learn...:) |
That's adorable that you don't get that whiteness is a spectrum.

But what we're talking about here is apparent discrimination among North and South Western Europeans. That's a little different. In my mind, absolutely based on the much smaller wealth disparity between the two, unlike between the East and the West. |
Quote:
Of course I realise wealth disparity plays a role in racism, but it's not the entire picture. The fundament behind racism is a hatred of things that are different from you. Take Jewish people, who weren't poorer than other ethnic groups in Europe but were discriminated horribly. If all Latinos become rich, racism isn't solved. It's also the other way around: history of racism has led to wealth disparity which further reinforces racism. |

Same issue exists on a more regional basis, inside Spain, Italy, even Croatia, the developed north discriminates against and looks down on the less developed south. But coming back to the original point, OH, who is Irish and not British, was not discriminating against the Spanish and this is not a common thing in Europe. In my opinion and personal experience. Certainly not anything comparable to the racism Latinos experience in the U.S., which I think is what Charles thinks is happening. Spaniards=/=Latinos. |
Damn Croats are dumb. And here I thought you were one of the good ones!
|
We dumb and poor! And lazy, according to North Europe...

That's accurate! I was gonna marry a Spaniard to move up in the world but now it turns out he's just another dirty southerner! Gonna have to rethink my strategy. Dumb Slav. :(

I think it is a step up for fascists tbh.

I have relatives on my italian side that are among the most racist people in my family... Probably self conscious about that slight amount of Moor blood in their veins.

I'm no expert, but here I have never heard anyone complain about Spaniards. In summer (well, before Covid) we get thousands of Spanish students coming over on exchange trips and holidays. They're usually loud, hyper and very polite, and the women - ooh momma! They tend to fill up the buses - like maybe forty of them get on at one stop - and we grumble about that, but otherwise we have no beef with them. I've never seen an Irish person frown at a jabbering, excitable Spanish girl or boy. They always seem to be welcome here.
And yes, as adiddas said, I only used the name Jose to show the sub was Spanish, which it was. No racism intended, despite the fact that Batty will insist I am racist, which is in itself racist. Had it been a German sub I would have said Fritz or Wolf or something, Irish it would have been Paddy or Mick etc etc. The point was, they were high. This is not a state of being exclusive to any country, culture, race or creed or gender. |
What name would you have used if they were black?
|
Sambo presumably.
