One argument I'd like to make about this point:
1. How are you getting this "strong" economy for six out of eight years for Bush?
Compared to what?
The terms of Clinton?
The term of George H. W. Bush?
Due to the nature of my work, I am much, much busier in strong economic times. I'm a Cat mechanic, so the more construction, the more work. I have not been able to hardly breathe because I had so much work the last few years. This year, I'm lucky to get 40 hours. I could point to the performance of my investments which have tanked and cost me a **** load in the last few months when I made quite a bit over the last 10 years. You could also look at the DJIA over the period in question. The lowest point was in 2002 and equal to 1998.

This may also be an interesting read about the economic growth in the Clinton era. Clinton's Economic Legacy,

Fuzzy comparative politics aside, two things come up.
A. You obviously haven't lived in Michigan.
B. Even if your conclusion wasn't fuzzy *cough*full of shit*cough* you in no way explain your argument or how your premise (Republican majority) relates to your conclusion.
I never even drew a conclusion. I added something else to the argument. Its hard to call it bull **** when you haven't explored the possibility.

Quote:
It's like me saying, "U.S. Congress had a Republican majority for six of the eight years of Bush's terms. From 2000 to 2006, HIV AIDS dramatically increased in Zimbabwe."

The Republican's majority affecting condom donations to offset HIV AIDS in Zimbabwe aside, I'm sure you can see this argument has very little content
[/QUOTE]

Yes, because the U.S. Congress has just as much influence over the social situation in Zimbabwe as the U.S. economy.

Also, way to specify the bill you're talking about.
If you're talking about the repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act then yes, it did contribute highly to the economic crisis.
But you have to remember, this bill was sponsored by Republicans (in both the House and the Senate), and that the civil servants who backed it would more than likely be in John McCain's cabinet (if he gets elected).
Regardless, a majority of Congress voted to pass this bill, so you can't put it all on the shoulders of Bill Clinton to begin with.
My initial point: there are way too many people in action to put something solely on the President alone.
I was more trying to bring up the idea that this isn't solely on George Bush's shoulders. Many people, including, Clinton are responsible. I just hate it when uninformed Bush haters come on here and rave about how good Clinton was. Don't get me wrong, Bush sucks, and is to blame for a LOT of things, but this economy crisis is beyond him.

So with McCain we'll get Bush 2.0 and our first female and fuctionally retarded vice president, with all the flip flops that make McCain 2008 the kinda assh*le McCain 2000 would have run against. With one of the most retarded economic plans I have ever heard. "Don't contribute to your government and we'll kindly do absolutely nothing in return, except kill more brown people".

And with Obama we'll get a guy with nonexistant executive experience who wants bigger government and to "spread the wealth around" by taxing hard working small business owners so we can have the ultimate welfare state.

Easy to say I'm not very optimistic.

I'm leaning towards either writing in Kucinich or Paul, which I know is an odd thing to say because their policies are quite different but I think either would be more qualified and they're much more consistant with their respective political ideals. Paul is the only Republican right now I have any respect for, he like McCain wants small government but without the hypocrisy of limiting everything but millitary.

But then again, Nader is my main man.

@Bold: Yeah, I feel the same way. A lot of people question me for saying I would pick Kucinich over the current candidates because I am a radical libertarian. The thing is, Kucinich actually has integrity, which is something the current candidates really don't have. Only thing I am really afraid of is his plan to ban guns.

And everyone knows Ron Paul is my favorite candidate. Only one who advocates Austrian School. He should really be using more moral arguments for it, but since he is like most libertarians, he probably doesn't have any.

Ethan's awesome, but as you can see (throughout this thread), we have also argued heavily, so I don't think that comment is very fair.
I don't disagree with you that he was being a bully, but it's probably a lot easier to call him one if you (and it sounds like you do) support the person being bullied.
That woman has insulted Illinois and Canada and the intelligence of everyone on this forum; so as far as I'm concerned she can go fuck herself.

Okay, so you're basing the strength of the economy primarlily on your personal situation.

I'm using "conclusion" as: the point/main idea of an argument.
The argument I attacked was "the economy was strong six out of eight years of Bush."
From the way you structured it, that was your point.
That point is bullshit.

I'm now voting for McCain

It's amazing how naive people are when it comes to politics.

Like anything will change no matter who wins the election.

Obama, McCain, Biden and Palin are he same person politically.

I guarantee this no matter who wins:

1. No way Roe v. Wade is overturned

2. Taxes will be increased

3. We will be at War somewhere

4. We will be in debt

5. Dependency on foreign oil will still be a reality

6. Public schools will continue to get worse

7. More and more illegal immigrants will come to America seeking a new life because despite all it's problems it's the best country on earth.

Ethan, your arrogance at your age is very off putting. Sarah Palin would run circles around you in a political debate as would any politician they have teams of people working for them to help them understand what to say and when to say it. It's a game as long as the country doesn't understand how it works they'll keep playing it because our ignorance is their bliss.

I've seen 10 presidential elections in my life (in the US) and not one of them led to any change as a result of which side got into office.

If you're posting in the music forums make sure to be thoughtful and expressive, if you're posting in the lounge ask yourself "is this something that adds to the conversation?" It's important to remember that a lot of people use each thread. You're probably not as funny or clever as you think, I know I'm not.

I don't disagree at all.

No. I was being sarcastic. Alec Baldwin promised to leave the country last election if Bush won, he's still here.

So even just recently you couldn't tell the difference between Clinton and Bush? I don't think that things aren't changing, I think you're just too arrogant to notice it.

Sarah Palin may beat Sleepy Jack, but I doubt any of them would be a libertarian or an objectivist. You really can't be an objectivist at a political debate because their politics are rooted in a philosophy based on rationality. The problem is, the American people are to brainwashed to comprehend, "Man is an end in himself."
