Wow people, I realize some of us may be a little young for it, but it's a joke. Toao was telling a joke. First time I heard that joke was from my dad, who's in his 60's. Maybe the humor of it is lost on our generation, but it's kind of hard not to see the mechanism of the joke.

I'm not gay, and I can't marry a guy either.

Ca is different than the rest of the US. We were an independent republic, just like Texas. Only in ours, everyone was always pretty much equal, even Indians, Blacks, and of course, homosexuals.

The difference being your particular preference, actually. That's where the discrimination comes into play.

I do happen to be gay, and if I choose to spend the rest of my life with somebody, I don't see why it can't be legally recognized as even a sufficient Civil Partnership in many of the states.

Just try to see it as any other group, not just homosexuals. For example, what if the marriages of African Americans weren't recognized? Would you say, "I'm not black, but I can't marry a black person either"? Would that be the end of it?

And really, if you're all for letting people live their lives, you know, the "live and let live" stuff, then why would it hurt you if gay people were allowed to get married? It doesn't mean that you are required to be gay married, and it wouldn't hurt you in the slightest if gay people were getting married.

Anyone who argues that it should remain something which isn't allowed on the basis of religion can be shot down because religion cannot feasibly play a real part in legislative rulings. We don't live in a religious monarchy.

Those arguing that it's something which shouldn't be allowed because it doesn't really embody the true marriage in that the partners can't reproduce should, in theory, likewise be opposed to infertile couples being wed.

It's complete crap to me that people claim to be gay-friendly and such, but use tired excuses which aren't even applicable to the gay community to perpetuate the negativity by just...sitting around and watching.

That's the thing, you can. And I'm sure you probably realize, they've already had the legal partnership for years. You have all the same rights, the only difference is that you can't undo an adoption.

But the biggest problem is that marriage is a church thing, and then it starts to involve people that are absolutely positive they know god's personal opinion, and everyone else's is wrong.

If they ever do legalize it, I'm going to be one of the people that try to have two wives. Meaning two female wives of course. If a man can marry a man, why can't a man marry two women?
