Also, don't know a huge amount about US law, but at the moment (in the UK anyway) it seems that getting arrested for posession of any drug, weed included, can really mess your chances up: some colleges/universities won't accept anyone with convictions (mine didn't) for drugs, you can't travel to some countries (Australia takes a pretty strict stance on this for starters) and the Army usually restricts entry for anyone charged with drugs offenses.

Should it be legalized, they really can't do much beyond what they do for underage drinking: confiscate any contraband goods and tell you to leave the place you're at.

Major difference between these two scenarios. One will ruin your life, the other will be a hassle but otherwise less serious.

It's like anything: responsible use. You have a culture where age limits on things are respected and there's no issue. Bit like Japan: it's common to go into a magazine store and see 'adult' material on the racks right next to kids and teenage stuff, but the kids don't seem to bother to even really regard it.
You actually sound like you mostly agree with my position on this to be honest.

As far as the rules go in the US, in most states if you get caught with a small amount of weed you're most likely just going to get a slap on the wrist. In the state I grew up in, for example, weed has been decriminalized below a certain amount which means that the worst that's going to happen to you if you get caught with it, whether you're an adult or a minor, is it will be confiscated and you'll receive a citation. That's really no worse than being caught with alcohol underage. It's considered a violation, not a crime, and as such I believe it doesn't appear on your record.

I think a lot of teens don't use drugs is because they are illegal. There's a portion who don't care and use drugs and alcohol anyways, but I think a lot more teens would try drugs if they were legal. Obtaining isn't really an issue, kids already get illegal stuff pretty easily anyways. Like kids know they can't legally drink alcohol before they are 21, but tons of kids do anyways. Cause they figure it can't be that bad if it's legal after a certain age. I think the same kinda thing would apply with legalizing drugs.

Be more specific when talking about if drugs are legalized. What kind of drugs, and how legal?

I may try marijuana once, but only when I get to college (that is if it's legalized before I graduate - which it probably won't).

if the objective legality of something is the primary criteria as to whether or not you'll try something please allow me to repeat myself in your native language.

about 60% of the people i know smoke grass. When they dont its probably because of a raid and theres no decent stuff for a while, legalising would eliminate these problems im sure. It would also perhaps stop people from spreading sharded glass through the grass to add to weight. Thus eliminating it.

not quite... but if you're going to let the legality of something determine your actions (as objectively determined by a group other than yourself) then it stands to reason that same group can decide what you'll read, or listen to, etc.

if you're not curious because you're not curious then more power to you, by all means, live clean and healthy. do it up! on the other if you have been curious and just said 'wait no! it's illegal' when presented with the opportunity then yeah, you're being led by the nose.

it's not like weed was illegal back when alcohol was...
