Irrational fear is a terrible cornerstone for a presidency.

Goofle 01-25-2017 08:11 AM

There's nothing irrational about wanting to limit immigration, or starting with the most radical and unsuccessfully integrated nations. I suppose it depends on your perspective.

Frownland 01-25-2017 08:16 AM

It is irrational when it's an attempt to fix a non-issue for our country based off of a subsection of their population. I remember when we limited German immigration in the 30s. That one looks good in history textbooks, I'm sure this one will too.

Goofle 01-25-2017 08:30 AM

Immigration is a big issue in the US, with most wanting a huge decrease. Trump happens to land on the side of the fence that wants to limit it as much as is arguably reasonable. If you don't like him banning immigrants from specific Muslim majority countries, fine. But for those who do believe that it may limit the spread of radical Islam, two birds, one stone.

Frownland 01-25-2017 08:32 AM

It really is a nonissue for our country ATM though, no matter how scared some people are. We have much much bigger fish to fry.

Goofle 01-25-2017 08:41 AM

It's not an issue at the moment... are you suggesting it could become a bigger issue?

Many fish can fry at the same time.

Frownland 01-25-2017 08:48 AM

Yes, I could see it being a problem if, for example, the entire population of China immigrated to Rhode Island but as of now and most likely the immediate future, people are scared of imaginary monsters when it comes to immigration.

Time to smack him around before he passes this, Mattis. That's what you're here for.

Not to mention interning Japanese Americans....

But that presupposes that every immigrant coming from an Islamic country is a militant. What about those who are not, but are fleeing war and trying to survive and protect their children? Old issue, old argument I know, but still valid.

Even aside from the contents of all these executive orders, what are everybody's thoughts on Trump's seeming desire to alter so much policy on his own without consulting or trying to work with Congress? I'm getting wannabe dictator vibes at the moment, but I don't like jumping to conclusions.

Trollheart 01-25-2017 10:19 AM

Should that not be the National Guard? What's the FBI gonna do: investigate it?

Serious question: what odds do anyone put on an assassination attempt on Trump within his first year in office?

Frownland 01-25-2017 10:29 AM

100% because someone did at one of his rallies already.

Trollheart 01-25-2017 10:31 AM

Wow. That was quick. That man's gonna have to invest in Kevlar stocks. "Trump Kevlar: even the President trusts it!"

No, because unless martial law is declared it is illegal for the military to occupy any place inside the United States. Our military is not to be used as police.

What about Trump's actions so far makes you think he gives a crap about that? Isn't he wiping his arse with the Constitution anyway?

Because he'd be impeached if he tried. Unless our country has fallen way farther than I ever realized that is simply not a line that can be debated crossing. I know the National Guard has been used a few instances in our history for small scale ****, but as far as an actual occupation goes, I'm fairly certain that is a big no no.

Who's gonna impeach him? Don't Republicans control both Houses now?

Congress are made up of state representatives. I imagine they'd be quick to jump on anyone invading their kingdoms.

Neither is people having to walk around large US cities wearing breathing masks cause the air pollution is so bad - like many places in China. Yet your boy is going to gut the EPA by $800 billion and wipe out regulations for those who create pollution?

And name the last terrorist act committed in the US that was not committed by a US citizen.

Lastly, why are you so afraid Goof?

This is why partisan political jokes aren't funny. They're not actual jokes, just passive aggressive ways for biased people to say, "I don't like this".

Like this. This is a bunch of bull****. Obama should have came out as being really really supportive of the pipeline, then Trump would have done the knee jerk response of closing them down.

Yeah, he's on a streak of just going against everything that Obama was for pretty much.

He's already leaning towards being a dictator by promoting and getting the public riled up about "fake news" so much so that he can end up controlling the media himself. He wants to get his lies straight to the public another reason that he ends up tweeting out so much. He wants to control the information that people hear without the press to challenge him and call him out for the stupid crap that isn't true.

To comment on The Wall talk. The only people that have issues about immigration are people that are afraid of immigrants through what they are being fed from their media of choice. It isn't a real issue in border towns that a wall needs to be built. The only thing they need are a few more cameras than they have. What's already in place is perfectly fine as it. Same thing with the vetting process for Muslims coming in. There is already a system in place but for some reason Trump things the wheel needs to be re-invented so he can take credit for it.

Suzan Eraslan posted to FB that "someone on Twitter who has studied oppressive regimes suggested, right after the election, to keep a list of abnormal and worrying events after a demagogue is elected, as a way to remind yourself that this isn't normal and to keep from being overwhelmed into acceptance by the onslaught of attacks on our rights."

She compiled a list and it's gone viral on FB over the past few hours, but here is the live doc on Google Drive which will be continually updated as new events transpire. And all events include a link to the source report.

I would also add Trump's plan to sign The First Amendment Defense Act as an event-to-watch-for, which would prohibit the federal government from taking "discriminatory action" against any business or person that discriminates against LGBTQ people. The act distinctly aims to protect the right of all entities to refuse service to LGBTQ people based on two sets of beliefs: "(1) marriage is or should be recognized as the union of one man and one woman, or (2) sexual relations are properly reserved to such a marriage." (as reported by NBC News just before year's end).

These people baft me. How the **** can you sit there and claim your religion/beliefs is/are being attacked/persecuted when you go out of your ****ing way to make all these rules and regulations to disavow others and pay good money that COULD in fact be going towards greater causes (oh, you know... ****ing christian things?) instead of getting to choose what two people do in their private ****ing lives?

innerspaceboy 01-25-2017 09:38 PM

I'm going to archive the Google Doc to my server and various sneakernet drives each evening. I wouldn't expect Google to kill all access to the live doc, but with this Orwellian administration, I wouldn't chance it.

I'm concerned that you'd make such a sweeping hateful remark about 8 million people, (or, to be fair, 94,234 San Franciscans). Unless the entire LGBTQ populous showed up at your house and took a dump on your porch, you're not in a position to condemn an entire community.
