I've had somebody try to rob me at gun point. I never felt I needed a gun afterwards.

But god damn guns are cool. You could blow somebody's brains all over the place with a gun.

(i) Lie to the press:
- as on inaugaration day, when he described rain as sunshine.
- as when he described chaos, confusión and protests over his ill-conceived travel ban as "going nicely"
(ii) Lie about the press:
- as when he says, "All negative polls are false."
- as when he accuses them of writing "fake news." For the record, "fake news" are deliberately fabricated stories to serve as click bait. Even if mainstream reporting is biased or inaccurate, it's not "fake news."
- describing the press as "the enemy of the people". A term like this is a red flag, haha, to anyone familiar with Stalin-era Russia. It's a very sinister, non-specific accusation, which, if unchallenged, allows for all manner of persecution.
(iii) Muzzle the press:
- White House blocks CNN, other news organizations from press briefing - Feb. 24, 2017

Dan Rather is such a famous US newsman that even I've heard of him. Here's what he posted yesterday about the Trump admin's treatment of his profession. For a guy who's been in the business for decades, it's a pretty damning condemnation:-

Quote:

The time for normalizing, dissembling, and explaining away Donald Trump has long since passed. The barring of respected journalistic outlets from the White House briefing is so far beyond the norms and traditions that have governed this republic for generations, that they must be seen as a real and present threat to our democracy. These are the dangers presidents are supposed to protect against, not create.

There has been a wall of unbending support from virtually every Republican in Congress, and even some Democrats. Do you maintain that an Administration that seeks to subvert the protections of our Constitution is fit to rule unchecked? Or fit to rule at all?

This is an emergency that can no longer be placed solely at the feet of President Trump, or even the Trump Administration. This is a moment of judgement for everyone who willingly remains silent. It is gut check time, for those in a position of power, and for the nation

Dan Rather is an icon and knows a thing or two about being politically suppressed.

I'm pretty much with elph on guns here but yeah this is understandable. Maybe more so in your country.

I'm not a 2nd Amendment nut either. I don't even know that it needs to be an amendment at all. If it's there so people can arm themselves against the government then the time when that would be particularly helpful probably died with the advent of the tanks and bombers. And if it's just about self-defense then I don't think that is important enough to make it such an inviolate right. I probably wouldn't care that much if it became a state issue.

Chula Vista 02-25-2017 10:37 AM

It is a state issue to many degrees.

Here in California:

I'm not even a partisan bro. The republican party hasn't been doing anything for years. It was just funny seeing the DNC implode and continue to fail. If they keep focusing on wedge issues such as race, gender and orientation they will not recover. That and the fact that they nominate weak politicians to represent there party. They will continue to fail in 2020 if they keep this **** up.

The Batlord 02-25-2017 11:08 AM

Do liberal politicians even talk about gender and orientation? I only ever hear that stuff from internet people and college kids.

Ha when Clinton was insinuating that "systemic racism" exists so she could pander to minorities comes to mind. The former president saying that there is no racial tension and inviting the hate group #BLM to the white house does also. There's many other instances...

The Batlord 02-25-2017 11:30 AM

I'm sure you could cherry pick plenty of instances of liberals saying liberal things of all sorts, but the kind of SJW politics that brain dead right wingers associate with liberals is generally the reserve of actual SJWs. You just sound like you spend too much time on Reddit.

No arguing that. Just a few things I've noticed throughout this insane election year. It's worth pointing out.

California may have the strictest gun laws in the country yet we have a castle doctrine that reads:

"Any person using force intended or likely to cause death or great bodily injury within his or her residence shall be presumed to have held a reasonable fear of imminent peril of death or great bodily injury to self, family, or a member of the household when that force is used against another person, not a member of the family or household, who unlawfully and forcibly enters or has unlawfully and forcibly entered the residence and the person using the force knew or had reason to believe that an unlawful and forcible entry occurred."

So yes, if a stranger breaks into my home, and doesn't heed my verbal warning to get the **** out, I can legally shoot them.

BLM is hardly even a group let alone a hate group. Don't be drinking the Fox News rhetoric. When anybody can get a sign and protest or use a hashtag on twitter to be a part of BLM you can't treat that as an organization like the KKK. Don't be stupid, it's a cultural movement.

And I think systematic racism is proven to exist. A lot of it really depends on where you live. We don't have a lot of statistics because our law enforcement are really incompetent when it comes to reporting and keeping track of these things but the few statistics we have show that black people tend to receive harsher sentences and are more likely to be convicted over white people. Same goes with guys being convicted over girls, systematic sexism. Same goes with beautiful people over ugly people. The reason I always get off light. I'm ****ing gorgeous.

My warning would be very loud and very clear. The upstairs hall light would be on right after I got my gun, and before I dialed 911. Pulling the trigger would be the absolute last resort.

This is not a cavalier issue. Even though a lot of dudes who own guns to make up for having a small dick try to make it one.

I take gun ownership as serious as it can be taken.

Trump announces he's not attending the White House's Correspodence Dinner. First president in 35 years to do it. And Reagan had the excuse of recovering from a gunshot wound at that time. Poor Donny's afraid of being picked on again. ****ing baby.

Ben Stein is a ****ing total jerk BTW. Go away and die you ****ing dickward.

Respect for tradition is a part of the social contract. Ignoring unwritten rules, in this case, smells fascistic.

DwnWthVwls 02-25-2017 07:46 PM

No it doesnt and doing things out of tradition is stupid. Its not his tradition. People getting offended by expectations they force on others is bs and childlike.

So not following an unenforced tradition smells fascistic...

but scrutinizing somebody for not following a tradition doesn't...

Like, there is so much to hate him for, why are you making **** up at this point?
