For one, I'm with Janszoon that there wasn't much bickering, just explaining to Trollhammer that a joke was made had nothing to do with the situation. I don't think that's very disrespectful personally, but that's just me.

And when Urban tells us to hold our heads in shame for it, I can't help but be amused when he made comments like this before the news:

Is respect not deserved for someone alive? Just found it ironic that he would be the one to lecture us on being respectful

Urban Hat€monger ? 12-05-2012 03:58 PM

I wondered how long it would be before that comment would be dragged up.

I could have easily have gone into the other thread and say I thought he was this or that, but I didn't. why didn't I? Out of respect for the people who did like him and want to have a place where they could say goodbye to him. I would feel the same regardless of whether it was him or any other person on here.

Whatever I felt about him is totally irrelevant to this.

Well that thread was created by me, wondering what had happened to Howard, now we know of course! I was surprised that it was shut down as it was quite active. It seemed to be shut down as it wasn't going anywhere, but then again 75% of the threads on the forum don't really go anywhere either.

I don't think there is any issue with that thread being dragged up, nobody at the time knew he had died, so there is no reason for anybody to point a finger at you for closing it. Hell......somebody in the thread actually joked that he may have died!

We now know he has died and anybody on here whether they liked him or not, has had the choice to pay their respects to him.

I thought it was about respect for Howard?

At least that's what I got out of your example of you dying, and your "Sorry Howard" at the end.

If it was respect for people who liked him, then I hope I didn't offend anyone else and apologize if I did.

Urban Hat€monger ? 12-05-2012 04:17 PM

I've explained to you why I wrote that post twice now, why drag it up again?

It doesn't matter if you don't care.

I explained to you why I reacted to your comment as I did and you haven't really changed my opinion of it, basically avoiding what I said. But I'm content with moving on.

Trollhammer, eh? I like that... :yeah:
Mind you, sounds like Jackhammer and I got caught in some terrible matter-transfer experiment and merged as one person! What about the other half? What about poor Jackheart?

It doesn't matter if GB knew or not. As a side note I really don't know how to take what GB said either, maybe he was venting or maybe he was being humorous. But it's not about bad timing or even what he said it's why he said it. There are things he does that looks like he's brown nosing, it's as if he picks up on who isn't like then goes after them. That incident seems like another example, he seen what others said about Howard and repeated it. I don't know if he's really doing that but if he is he should just chill. And telling a person to chill out isn't the worst thing in the world.

Some mods have 2 big of avatars and i dont think thats fair theyre like just lording their power over us to make the rest of us look/feel inferior. i mean they should just have the same sized avatars as the rest of us, what, are they special or something?

Nah I keep mine within the limits. The max size for me is 500 x 500 so i could take advantage of that if you like.

I think the fact GB didn't know has a lot to do with it, I'm pretty much sure if GB knew he would've left the nominations blank out of respect for Duce and I'm pretty sure GB has never seen eye to eye with Duce like the opinions members USED to have towards him. I think his death has had the hypocrites crawling out of the woodwork.

Honestly, this is a no win situation for me.

I didn't like him, I said I didn't like him, it turned out he had died. I blanked my nominations because I felt it would be in poor taste to keep them, and hypocritical to replace them with others.

That really should have been the end of it (And honestly, worse things have been said about him since by other members, but usually with some tacked on apology about how people "never saw eye to eye" with him but "wished they'd gotten to know him better"), but by having some kind of public debate over what I've said, what are you expecting?

As FETCHER said, I think a lot of people's sudden shifts in attitude towards him is incredibly hypocritical. And here, you're basically accusing me of not being able to form my own opinions. I could defend myself, but that would mean taking time to explain in specifics why I didn't like Howard.

In other words, well done, you've managed to take a potshot at me, knowing that I actually can't defend myself without taking shots at a dead man.

That's awfully presumptuous to assume that people suddenly shifted attitudes because of his death, how can you be for certain that people didn't always think that way? In light of what happened, we're focusing on the positives, nothing wrong with :)

Made a comment on him back in January of this year:
Quote:

Il Duce: Pretty off the wall, doesn't take anything too seriously, I like him for that. Seems chill, even if he's a weirdo

Mojo 12-06-2012 08:53 AM

This really is getting ridiculous.

Look, not everyone got on well with Howard. What has happened isn't gonna change that and surely everyone is capable of recognising that GB isn't alone in that sense.

Given what has happened GB has, out of good taste in my opinion, removed certain comments he made around the time the news broke here and at least attempted to leave it at that and step away from it.

Bringing this crap up and berating him, arguing with him, and in many ways making him the scapegoat for saying things that many other people had said (and frankly were entitled to say if thats how they felt) over the last year or two is in much poorer taste than anything GB has said or done, in my opinion.

Can we please just drop this now and, unless you're Vegangelica, if anyone can prove to me that they have never made a negative comment about another member here, whether directly or indirectly, or whether it was deserved, undeserved or just an honest opinion shared then I will be very, very surprised.

If anyone else had said it they would have gotten a far more negative and aggressive response.

Normally, I'd just pass this sort of drama by and not bother with a response at all, but considering the potential depth of this particular situation and to lend some support to GB, I just want to write that I agree wholeheartedly with mojo's most excellent post.

I don't think of them as lording over me with their avatars, but I definitely sympathize. No member should have an avatar that expands the avatar/user info area to vaginormous size. It looks bad and demonstrates laziness, ignorance or a complete inability to simply resize a picture.
