thank the gods there was no stage diving at the quicksand show.....i'd be in the hospital :)

I hear ya. My 46 year old friend was stage diving at GBH til he got tossed on his head and almost broke his neck. I however hung back by the bar and just got hammered and listened to what is still a very good band.

Insane Guest 01-23-2013 12:06 PM

I went a whole Slayer set without getting out of the pit, I was so pumped on adrenaline that 10 minutes after they were done, I started to realize that the bump on my nose had been harder than I thought, must've looked pretty metal being all bloody in the pit though.
My body always feels like it's been stomped on afterwards but it's all good fun.

bob. 01-23-2013 12:07 PM

i got punched in the face by a 14 year old at a Subhumans show

Insane Guest 01-23-2013 12:10 PM

Booze and pits...that's when it gets violent.

I have so many fond memories of Slayer shows. I remember a skater looking kid getting thrown into a huge firepit by two heavy metal behemoths. My friend and I pulled him out and stomped on him to put him out. I also broke my nose at a Slayer show, Meth its a hell of a drug.

bob. 01-23-2013 12:12 PM

i honestly think he punched me because i'm old....i am so discriminated against :(

14 year olds are growing up quick nowadays. I've never encountered any static at a Subhumans show, only TSOL and DI for some reason.

Bearhug that mofo, then throw him onto the crowd, he'll then get bearhugged by security.

Scarlett O'Hara 01-24-2013 08:29 PM

I'm so excited, I have the St. Jerome's Laneway Festival to go to on Monday, whoop!

Insane Guest 01-25-2013 11:14 AM

Coachella lineup released, If anyone is interested. I'm pretty bummed it sold out during the presale but I figure I could catch most of the acts on their individual tours, I can pick everyone I want to see, they'll come even closer than Indio, you get the full sets, no hipsters, and it's most likely going to be cheaper.
Still missing a fun weekend though, so bummer.

I ended up in a circle pit at a Motorhead show. Absolutely terrifying.

Weirdest thing to happen to me at a gig would be being hit with what looked as though it was probably a whole, intact, block of butter.

oh yeah from what I heard its a really good lineup. or, at least a lot of bands I like/listen to. i live too far away to go so i'll probably end up catching the individual shows I can too.

WTF when did they add DEVO? Probably sold out already. I checked this lineup a week back and it was strong before the addition of DEVO. Damn Tartar Control is moving up the ladder good for them. I would cancel my disney trip and **** Mickey Mouse up just for one ticket, enjoy.

bob. 01-28-2013 05:49 PM

i checked the line up last night and they weren't on it :)

obviously Devo and Tartar Control pushed me over the edge for going....but i have to admit its the Weirdos that i am most looking forward to....i assumed all those guys were dead!

tickets go on sale tomorrow Fred....no fucking excuses!

Except its in Vegas right? Would be killer and The Weirdos are awesome along with just about every other band on the bill. I've been checking that lineup for weeks and never saw DEVO on the bill. Mark Mothersbaugh must be retracing his roots or something, good for them.

bob. 01-28-2013 05:55 PM

Vegas is a four hour drive man!

in fact me coming from reno is further than you coming from orange County....just a quick stroll up the I15

Deviouz 01-28-2013 06:07 PM

Coachella, mayng. Don't know half of the acts, hopefully pick some up on the way! ;)

I'm undecided about Friday night now. Was considering OFF at the Fonda Theater. Now i'm torn because Visual Discrimination is playing Unit B much closer to me. Decisions Decisions.

Thats one messed up promo flyer. I'm disoriented just thinking about it.

Went and saw Visual Discrimination. I've seen OFF twice in the past year. That flyer is like any other punk rock flyer, visually as stimulating as a two year olds. Great show though, saw some guy get stabbed in the parking lot also, he was alright though, I called the police and they sent EMTS.

Yeah, just making fun is all. Thats how they like em. All skewed and kinda random.

Why'd the dude get stabbed?

It started earlier at the skate ramp dealio. Some latino kids were smacking on a guy and he responded. Spilled out to the parking lot eventually and he took one in the ribs. Dudes ran when I said I was calling the pigs. Show was good, sure the venues gonna get black marked now though, hope not teenage angst has ruined alot of cool venues.

Ahhh to be young and stupid again. I actually DONT miss those days.

But, it does add a certain intensity to the venue. Take the Gimme Shelter story for example. People love that ****.

I remember watching it with moms. The Hells Angels as bodyguards great idea. I wouldn't want to ever be that stupid again.

Electrophonic Tonic 02-11-2013 06:15 PM

I was Lewis Black a few weeks back. He was pretty good, but he's not nearly as "angry" as he used to be. It was more like a lecture than a rant and it was a little boring at times. Still, he's one of the better comics working today.

I saw two local bands on Saturday. One is Cottage Jefferson and they're pretty good. But I was there for the opening act, Garden Fresh. They bill themselves as "Rochester's least offensive hip-hop duo" and are pretty much a comedy rap act. They rap about being polite, water, shoes, and weather. You know... some Biggie and 2pac type sh*t. They remind me of Weird Al, except they are not directly parodying songs. If it's something you might be into, (and you're expectations are reasonable ) I'll leave one of their songs in the spoiler below.

Spoiler for Garden Fresh- Water:

In terms of concerts for the future, winter is pretty dead in terms of bigger bands coming up here. I'll have to wait until summer for something more noteworthy to come up.

Honda Center: THE KILLERS

Bought two up front for my girls birthday on the presale because otherwise I wouldn't get em. Shes excited to see Brandon Flowers tight girl pants. I'm excited to see the band, I enjoy their simplistic pop. Kind of a growing hatred similar to the Coldplay/U2 angle but color me mainstream i'll deal with it.

Pretty safe to say there'll be no stabbing at that one.
